A-Ha "The Sun Always Shines On TV" I know there are some hardocre A-ha fans (actually, maybe it is just one person). I heard this one on the radio the other day. I like it better than "Take On Me". Now I know how some people will answer this but let me ask...should I just buy their first album or should I buy a hits collection.

"Train of Thought" is also on the "Hunting High and Low". So maybe I should just buy that.

The Hits!
The first album is great, but the singles are on the hits, plus you'll here how well they grew grew of the next 20 odd years. .

There are a few of us a-ha fans here.
Buy the first album. Every song is great. I did a post on it almost a year ago with YouTube videos of (almost) all the songs: http://prince.org/msg/8/299565 All of their albums are worth owning, but I'd start here. (I will say that a hits collection isn't a bad idea, because you'd get non-album singles like "The Shapes That Go Together" and the single version of "The Living Daylights.") This might be my favorite a-ha song, though:

The best song I've ever heard by the band. I don't want you to think like me. I just want you to think.

its one of their best of their 80's work or as they call it "the first round" but "the second round" material is far superior, for its time, and now as a live performance its one of the best songs of the 80's, and though peeps call them ONE hit wonders (in the usa that is) this song peaked at Number 25 in the statesm which is a Hit. Be prepared their 2010 "ending on a high note" tour is going to be one of the top 10 tours of the year. The Sun Always Shines on TV is one of their best songs, for sure. Not sure what my favorite is overall.. maybe Manhattan Skyline or Slender Frame. Love the East of the Sun, West of the Moon album. Their most recent album was terrific, as well. * * *

I'd say their first 2 albums are better than anything they've done since. Foot of the Mountain is my favorite of the second phase. and though peeps call them ONE hit wonders (in the usa that is) this song peaked at Number 25 in the statesm which is a Hit.
I believe it was #20. "Whitney was purely and simply one of a kind." ~ Clive Davis

I believe it was #20. Yeah the first two are great but its hard for me to rank them next to anything they have done since 2000, and also "East of the Sun West of the Moon" was the start of the development of the band, but never will a band have a better "final" album and tour than a-Ha. Its tough like i said, to me a-Ha of the 80's, isnt the a-Ha i know now. Its hard to compare 80's work or 90's work with the work they did after reforming up until their final work. I mean i could say "sun" is one of their best songs, and it is, but to say its best i cant do, just because i'll hear songs like "Nothing is keeping you here" or "bandstand" from the new album and its not possible to rank them "We went where our music was appreciated, and that was everywhere but the USA, we knew we had fans, but there is only so much of the world you can play at once" Magne F
