One of my all time favorite vocalists! George Michael could sing the alphabet and it would sound incredible to me. Love GM.

He has my favorite voice in music, and it still gives me goosebumps. I've been a fan of his longer than any other artist. While other artists have fallen in and out of my favor, and my musical tastes have changed and evolved, he has always been a constant.

There have been some random GM threads lately, about the DVD, or whatever, but I figured maybe we should just have an ongoing thread about him.

Frankly, I cannot stop watching the Live In London DVD. For whatever reason, I usually get about 2-3 viewings in a week. I might just have it on while doing things around the house, or I might actually sit and watch the concert, or the I'd Know Him A Mile Off documentary.

I got to going through his discography last night in my iTunes, and just enjoyed anything that came on. I think I might actually rate him a tiny bit above Prince on my Top Male Artists list. Just a tad.

Here he is covering Adamski's "Killer", and Stevie's "As" with Mary J. Blige (awesome video). He used to do a lot of Stevie songs for sound checks, and on tours. If you think about it, he's in that same vocal range, and style at times.

Random Prince connection: On the Cover To Cover tour, he once covered Soul II Soul's "Back To Life", and had Sheila E.'s good pal Lynn Mabry (with whom she's a business partner - she also sang on Sheila's Heaven album). Of course Lynn was also in Sly & The Family Stone, and later in P-Funk, Brides of Funkenstein. She also joined Talking Heads for Stop Making Sense.

Discuss.

George is fabulous. I absolutely love the way he sings and his songs, with so much emotion and I love his interviews. He's funny, down to earth, honest, just the way he is, a human being with flaws like all of us and he's not afraid to hide them. I really like him.

Saw some highlights of recent GM show(s). Not sure when, not up on recent GM exploits. But I was disappointed to notice that he's tuning some songs down to be able to sing them.

Like Bono, sadly, it's down hill from here.

Released in 1987 in the United Kingdom; Jive Talkin' quickly reached number one worldwide, selling over a million copies.

The hit song written by the Bee Gees was originally recorded as a demo by Andros Georgiou and a studio band made-up of Nick Hayward from Haircut 100 (guitar), Mick Talbot from Style Councl (keyborads), and members from George Michael's band.

Once the demo was completed; Andros played a copy for George Michael (his cousin), who instantly loved the track. George quickly took the master tapes to Denmark's PUK Studios (where he had recorded the 8x platinum album Faith), and spent three days recording his vocals on lead and backing tracks. Andros' vocals still appear in the background mix.

Due to contractual issues, George was never credited on the original release, and the song was marketed under the moniker of Boogie Box High. Fans quickly recognized George's stellar voice, making it an instant hit. Even the Bee Gee's have commented on how much more they like the Boogie Box High version to their original.

While originally available only on 7" & 12" vinyl, we have received countless requests over the years to re-issue Jive Talkin' in CD format. Recently we rediscovered several unreleased mixes by famed producer Jellybean Benitez, as well as the original demo tape that had been played for George!

Deciding to finally release a limited edition disc, DJ and remix artist Spreadlove was commissioned to create two new club mixes. These amazing tracks breathe new life into Jive Talkin' and introduce a new generation to the Bee Gees, George Michael, and Boogie Box High!

Track list

•7" Version (4:36)
•Jellybean 12" Dance Mix (6:45)*
•Jellybean Dub (5:37)*
•Jellybean 7" & Album (4:01)*
•Jellybean TV Track (4:05)*
•Spreadlove 4-to-the-Floor (5:13)**
•Spreadlove 2-Step (6:42)**
•Original Demo Tape (3:53)

Actually, there's a lot of similarities/parallels between Prince and George that many people wouldn't know.
1. Both had artistic/control disputes with their respective record labels in the early 90's
2. Prince released "emancipation" in '96 symbolising is freedom, GM released "Older" in '96, that included a song called Free.
3. Both released covers of 'I can't make you love me' in 1996.
4.Both are rare artists that compose, produce, arrange and perform all their work.
5. GM has admitted in many interviews that he is a huge Prince fan.

Interestingly though, for someone who plays most of the instruments on their albums, I have found it really hard to find any footage of George actually ever playing an instrument. If anyone has any footage of this...I'd love to see it.

Live in London DVD is great and reminds me how good vocalist and songwriter he really is. Even the recent song called Amazing is very catchy and smooth in my opinion. He still has everything to entertain us!

Great pop songwriter, I guess people just associate a lot what he has done with a very dated sound in general.

A few weeks ago I was hooked on Fast Love, it's one of the, well, sexiest pop songs ever made. Always had a soft spot for Careless Whisper as well.
