This is one category I really don't care if Maxwell wins or not.

I mean, he isn't singing.....

Yeah, but that is one of my favorite tracks on the album. It's so nice to hear an instrumental on a non-Jazz album. And that song kicks. I loved that they played it in concert.

MM is a talented musician, no doubt, but this track doesn't really grab me. His stuff is good, but always sounds a bit generic to me. I don't know, maybe it needs another listen.

I love me some Herb Albert but his and Hal & Oates nominations for "live" performances confuse the hell out of me.

confuse Let me understand this.

You're saying that regardless if that particular piece has musical merit, you don't care simply because he's not singing?

Yes, that's right. I don't give a fuck about instrumentals.

Absolutely. The band was the saving grace of Black and in my view, Phoenix Rise is the second best song on the album.

It's a pretty laid back track.
Not sure how these committees go about selecting a particular song off an album.

The bridge is cool and Gregoire Maret's harmonic solo is very hip.

OK, and I would like it better with vocals.

That's s good question. For the more popular artists it's obvious, they choose the big hit.

But then these industry powerhouses like Marcus Miller, Quincy Jones, Prince, etc that are legends of their fields always receive nominations whether they had a big hit or not.
