Critics' Top 20 Songs of 2009

Acclaimedmusic has compiled all critics' lists of the best songs of 2009, and here is the current list of the top 20. Agree? Disagree? Share your own!

20. Health- Die Slow
19. Dizzee Rascal- Bonkers
18. Animal Collective- Brother Sport
17. Grizzly Bear- While You Wait for the Others
16. Lily Allen- The Fear
15. The XX- Crystalised
14. Lady Gaga- Poker Face
13. La Roux- In for the Kill
12. Girls- Lust for Life
11. La Roux- Bulletproof
10. Phoenix- Lisztomania
9. Joy Orbison- Hyph Mngo
8. The Big Pink- Dominos
7. Jay Z featuring Alicia Keys- Empire State of Mind
6. Dirty Projectors- Stillness Is the Move
5. Phoenix- 1901
4. Yeah Yeah Yeahs- Zero
3. Grizzly Bear- Two Weeks
2. Bat for Lashes- Daniel
1. Animal Collective- My Girls

I think that's a pretty infallible top 5! "Daniel" and "Zero" are both in my top 5, and "Two Weeks" is quickly becoming a favorite, too.

I have only heard one song on that list and I hate it. Empire State of Mind is pure garbage to me.

I don't listen to pop radio or watch videos. I did hear Carmen on South Park do a parody last month but I am not sure if that is how the songs really goes.

I've only heard parts of it when they show clips of Lady Gaga on TV. I've actually never heard a song of hers from start to finish. I usually change the station after a bit when she comes on - just does nothing for me. I don't know most of those songs either besides Empire State of Mind. Actually, I've never heard of most of those artists. Beyond Lady Gaga, Jay Z and Lily Allen, I don't know any of them.

ok i don't like lady gaga but i think she was robbed. no way she should be at 14, no way she should only have one song on the list (love game? paparazzi?) and no way JayZ and Alicia should have outranked her. And wtf is lilly allen doing in the top 20? whofarted oh well, it's acclaimedmusc.

There´s not a single song in that list that I like, and I only know maybe two or three of the artists in that list.

I feel incredibly old and out of touch now.Maybe that´s a good thing. lol

Remember its a brit list, not worldwide.

That said, glad to see The Big Pink "Dominos" in there.

I believe it IS a worldwide list. That's what acclaimedmusic does. It combines reviews, best of lists, etc., from all professional reviewers.

18. Animal Collective- Brother Sport

12. Girls- Lust for Life
6. Dirty Projectors- Stillness Is the Move
3. Grizzly Bear- Two Weeks

I could go for "Brother Sport" if the album-version was as good as it was the way they were playing it live afore Merriweather Post Pavilion.

The rest are all great; "Lust for Life" is a perfectly fucked pop song, and "Stillness is the Move" was an unexpected twist from Dirty Projectors (the entire Bitte Orca album was all actually such a genius shift in sound).
