Not really a question because music is just going to get worse and worse , so what you think more shit hop and Mediocre artists .. I guess i'll have to stay in the 70's and 80's forever

Follow just the interesting artists that seem cool and otherwise stick to old school. It ain't good but it ain't real bad either. You find something good in a pile of muck.

Same here but then again, some artists who are new or unheard of seem intriguing and that's pop/rock/dance artists for the most part.

Well there are many ways to look at it, but just remove yourself from being in the state and you'll be fine. Dont get hung up in what sells, soundscan first week numbers, who gets airplay who doesnt etc...In my eyes i like the bands i like and the singers i like and they keep working and going forward, and actually here and there i pick up a new artist that has a future.

2010 for me is going to be a "mindblowing" year because my favorite ever will tour the world, release a dvd and concert cd, a retrospective and come to the usa for a couple of shows in NYC, but then will call it a day in December in Norway where i will be with them. So the trick that i learned back in later 70's and mostly in the 80's, just stay loyal to your artists, adn they usually keep going for you.

Hopefully more substance and less trickery.

I wish artists and labels alike learn a valuble lesson from this whole past year and regard people's intelligence,,,,,you could only fool people for too long.

Another GaGa album that is likely to sell well.

Another P album that we will all disagree over.

A new artist (maybe Justin Bieber) that is supposed to be the best thing in 20 years.

Susan Boyle will sell another 2 million copies.

Adam Lambert flops harder than hell (sales wise).

A Britney/Rihanna/JayZ/Beyonce/Kanye scandal.

A new Beyonce album in the Fall.

There are a lot of releases I'm looking forward to in 2010. I'm not sure what trends there will be, or anything, though.

Hip-Hop/R&B will keep stealing from dance and electronic music to seem innovative. Other artists will keep rehashing music from 30 years ago and people will think they're genius. Same ol', same ol'.

It will be the same as it is now. Styles don't change anymore like they used to at the start of a new decade. When the 2000s started, it remained the same as it was in the 1990s and hasn't changed yet. The 2010s will be no different unless shit hop goes out of style and I don't see that happening any time soon.

It will only get worse. There hasn't been decent music since the 90s, everything else after that tries to recapture the magic of the previous decades and fails very quickly. More unoriginal, vapid, and commercial acts will continue to pump out non-sense to the masses...

Using my psychic abilities, I predict the downward swirl of hip hop(my wish). We will continue to see a rise in pop, i.e. Lady Gaga type music and toward the end of the year we will start to see more ballads beginning with mid-tempo songs. That is my prediction for 2010. The record industry will still be in a mess though.

I miss like 2007 and 2008 when people would say

MJ is working on a new album.

No new album. Maybe some hits collection, and maybe
some remixed versions of what he was "working" on, but it
will never quite be the same. Music died (for me) in 2009. neutral

Beyond that, maybe George Michael, Seal, Prince, or one of my
other favorite artists can help put it on life support. But
without MJ, it will never be the same. I miss his presence in
the music world already. neutral

More frothy Disney pop, crappy bling bling ghetto rap, and another underpar Prince album. Michael Jackson, from the secret vault recordings, including the recording session he did while he was dying, more remember Michael Jackson tribute albums.

Thats what I do. I think the scene might change. Susan Boyle can sell double platinum in 3 weeks, the music indutry is not that bad, it just needs a shift in core audience. Country and rock artists are selling fine compared to the young artists.

While I agree with that to a point, MJ hadn't had an album out of all new material in 8 years. Such a long damn time. He wasn't part of the music scene or making waves in it when he passed away. He had worked on a lot of tracks, and I hope they are finished and released at some point. I cringe a little with "This is It" because it was a demo, and even though there are a lot of overdubs and backing vocals (by the brothers) added to make it a real "song", it has a slightly out-of-tune quality to part of it, and it sounds cheap and unfinished. But I also understand the hurried nature of the situation.

I look forward to Seal too. His last album was a bit "Eh" for me. But everyone has that one album that is a bit wishy washy. You're so right that people like George Michael, Seal and others are the life support we need in an industry that is nothing but rather like the Coyote in the Warner Bros cartoons when he tries to blow up the road runner, and gets hammered by an anvil. He keeps going, but never really achieves what he's after. It's the same "joke" over and over, whether that joke is named 50 Cent, Chris Brown, Timbaland, or whatever.

I agree with u about MJ. It's like he wasn't that relevant to the music scene anyway. Sure, he released good music, but MJ had gotten to the point where Madonna and P are also. That is they are releasing albums because they want to.

Agreed. Madonna, while still making catchy songs and being all "button pushing" and shit, isn't changing music. she isn't being innovative. Hooking up with Timberlake and Pharrell isn't being innovative. It's the flavor of the day. Anyone heard of Pharrell doing anything lately? Anything about Timberlake besides on/off again w/ Jessica Biel? Hard Candy was okay at best, and we're still waiting on that tour DVD. You know, the tour that has been going on for like 20 years now or something.

MJ made music because he wanted to, and he knew the fans need for something new. But neither are making new tracks.

And really, who IS making new tracks in music? Who is putting something out that people are REALLY taking note of? It reminds me of that saying by Paul McCartney or whoever when they said "there are only 8 notes and only so many combinations of those notes before every song that could ever be written, has been written". In the last few years, that's exactly what the music industry feels and sounds like.

I can understand maybe Bow Wow on Cash Money getting more attention next year. But you want Lil Wayne, weak-rapping Drake, and some random dudes named Birdman and Lil' Twist to rule music? LOL.

The state of music really hasn't changed much at all, when you think about it, so this thread's kind of null. Music goes through phases, different styles emerge and become popular before falling back into obscurity. Stay within the genres you like, and you shouldn't be too disappointed.

Personally, I haven't seen any indicators that 2010 will be great or horrible, as of yet. There's a new Vampire Weekend album coming out in January, as well as a new MGMT album, so that's kind of a plus for me. Other than that, it's just 'wait and see' for me.
