Your Artist of the Decade in words and pictures (and videos if you got)

We have all debated the term artist of the decade, and this decade seemed to spark alot of debate. BUT i know we all have our own, maybe one or two that FOR US are our artists of the decade. So No Rules here, who meant the most to you, for whatever reasons during this decade.

my 00s have been all about one person
reclaiming her rightful place on top of the pop charts with this

reaches the heights of fame she hadn't seen since her days on Neighbors with

stepping outside of her comfort zone with

sheer brilance

she was the one for the 00s that everyone followed from Madonna to Janet to Beyonce to Lady Gaga they all have stolen something from her this decade

For me it would have to be a-Ha.

Now they werent new, but actually they were. They had stopped recording as a band in 1993, had a benefit single in 1994, but it was really a done deal, just not announced, they drifted apart. But in 1998 in Oslo, they performed at the Nobel Peace Price Concert and did a new song called "Summer Moved On" which was written by Paul just for that night, little did they know they would be back in the studio months later, they labored for close to a year recording "Minor Earth Major Sky" which came out in June of 2000, and they thought it would be a one-off quite thhing, little did they know it wouuld be their fastest selling album and single yet. Going to number 1 in Germany and top 10 in other markets, the album lead to a tour, and lead to another album in 2002 called "Lifelines" and another tour and that lead to the end of their deal with WB which had existed for 20 years, they gave them a farewell with the 2cd "how can i sleep with your voice in my head " live album of their 2002 tour, a live dvd of their 2000 tour, and a remastered hits collection 1984-2004. Some thought it might be the end again, well this lead to a new 3album deal at Universal, which led to the 2005 album "anlaogue" and a tour and their first show in the USA in 20 years, playing Irving Plaza in NYC selling out in 25 minutes. Well then came a wider tour through all of 2006-2007 and led to solo records from all members. And in 2009 a very special series of shows, where they played solo but together, at the Royal Albert Hall, showcasing their individual strengths and then as a band for a 4 song set together. That led to June's release of "Foot of the Mountain" which is regarded as their best album yet, and a tour and massive press took over, talk of a major 2010 tour celebrating 25 years together were introduced, but then out of now, this celebration would be a closing of the book.

Now they are set for a tour in 2010 in every country, even the USA for a bit, and a promised live dvd,cd, retrospective collection all in the works for the end of a-ha as a unit, but not closing the door totally as it was recently said. "we still will be a-Ha" was the message from lead singer Morten Harket.

stuff about A Ha

i think on a whole the European Pop Scene is light years better than anything the US has produced this decade.

I think mainly because there is more loyality there, and in alot of other countries than here. I mean we all have shit, but the US seems to have a real abundance of it taking over, and no one gets a play. Thats really the main issue, i mean Kylie will still get play their, a-Ha had a Top 5 album in the UK this year, and a top 10 hit in the uk, that would never happen to an older artist here now.

Also it seems they still care about things like "videos" and still have "cd singles" for the most part. I look at alot of the acts i listened to the last couple of years that were new, and most are not based here.

Exactly they still know how to market music.

Some moments from a-ha this decade for me.

The last being my fave because i got to meet them, that was Sep 11 2005, when a-Ha borrowed some instruments and played with a local street musicians, very cool, you would never see others do that.

Off the top of my head, my top 3 favorite acts of this decade would probably be Esthero, Amy Winehouse and Sam Sparro.

I don't really feel like any one artist absolutely dominated.

Gaga is bringing the decade to a close nicely.

I know most will hate this but I don't care. Mine is Britney.

Starting off with the classic pop sound that made everyone wanna work with Max Martin:

Her songs are never without an epic performance to match:

Sticking with Max's sound for her second album, only bigger and better:

With her dancing unrivaled by anyone else in pop at that stage:

The reign continued into 2001, where Britney heralded the pop/r&b sound that made everyone wanna work with The Neptunes (yep, she gave them their first #1 hit):

Next up, a bit of crackin' controversy:

(Check out Mary J behind JT lmao)

Before getting right back into the epic pop:

Her hiatus really wasn't much of a hiatus at all:

Things weren't going so well for her personally. Yet in the studio, she was still on fire:

The winning streak continued with her 6th album:

And a best selling world tour:

Plus her 2nd greatest hits with a new single:

It's been almost 11 years since Baby One More Time was sent to radio stations, and there's no doubt Britney owned this last decade (and a bit) of pop. It doesn't stop here though, she's already working on her 7th album, due in June 2010.

lol She's right up there! Björk's Vespertine was my favorite album of the 00s, but Annie was the most consistently excellent for me, although she doesn't have a lot of material. Kylie had quite a few albums that rank highly for me, and hence she's the winner.
