Madonna's Celebration Album

Does anybody know which versions are included on this compilation? I'm trying to tag some MP3 files correctly, and there's nothing in the album artwork which gives any clues.

Would this be right?

DISC ONE

01. Hung Up
02. Music
03. Vogue (1990 Q-Sound Mix)
04. 4 Minutes (2009 Edit)
05. Holiday
06. Everybody (2009 Edit)
07. Like a Virgin (1990 Q-Sound Mix)
08. Into the Groove (Original 12" Mix)
09. Like a Prayer
10. Ray of Light (2009 Edit)
11. Sorry (2009 Edit)
12. Express Yourself (Video Version Edit)
13. Open Your Heart (1990 Q-Sound Mix)
14. Borderline (1990 Q-Sound Mix)
15. Secret (2009 Edit)
16. Erotica (2009 Edit)
17. Justify My Love
18. Revolver

DISC TWO

01. Dress You Up (Alternate Mix)
02. Material Girl

08. Who's That Girl?
09. Frozen
10. Miles Away (2009 Edit)
11. Take a Bow
12. Live to Tell
13. Beautiful Stranger
14. Hollywood (2009 Edit)

Off the top of my head
DISC ONE

01. Hung Up
02. Music
03. Vogue (1990 Q-Sound Mix)
04. 4 Minutes (2009 Edit)
05. Holiday
06. Everybody (2009 Edit)
07. Like a Virgin (1990 Q-Sound Mix)
08. Into the Groove (Original Single Mix)
09. Like a Prayer
10. Ray of Light (GVH2 edit)
11. Sorry (2009 Edit)
12. Express Yourself (Video Version Edit)
13. Open Your Heart (1990 Q-Sound Mix)
14. Borderline (1990 Q-Sound Mix)
15. Secret (2009 Edit)
16. Erotica (GVH2 edit)
17. Justify My Love
18. Revolver

DISC TWO

01. Dress You Up (Alternate Mix...cuts the first one or two beats...sounds awkward)
02. Material Girl
03. La Isla Bonita
04. Papa Don't Preach
05. Lucky Star (2009 Q-Sound Mix Edit....not sure about Q-sound, but seems new, and has an odd edit that I dectect right before vocal)
06. Burning Up
07. Crazy for You (1990 Q-Sound Mix)
08. Who's That Girl?
09. Frozen
10. Miles Away (2009 Edit....odd, pointless edit just like "4 Minutes")
11. Take a Bow
12. Live to Tell
13. Beautiful Stranger (Could be GVH2 edit)
14. Hollywood (2009 Edit)
15. Die Another Day
16. Don't Tell Me (GVH2 if edit)
17. Cherish (thinking 1990 Q-Sound)
18. Celebration

Ones not marked should be album cuts, which is cool for a song like "Frozen" that is great when it runs long (even though it takes away from others and seems out of place with the edits).

Weren't most of the GHV2 versions existing radio or 7" edits? It's beyond confusing.

This is how I have those songs on GHV2 tagged:

11. Ray Of Light (Radio Edit)
02. Erotica (Radio Edit)
08. Beautiful Stranger (William Orbit Radio Edit)
12. Don't Tell Me

There's a comment at Amazon, noting that the string outro at the end of 'Don't Tell Me' has been removed, making it a new 2009 edit of the original album version:

http://www.amazon.com/rev...hisHelpful

I can't believe all the Madge-Hags in the world haven't updated Wikipedia with the details. They're usually quite... competitive, when it comes to stuff like this. lol

I think people got brunt out on the album before it came out, fans including. Hell, I doubt it really sold to anyone other than the hardcore in the states.

Miles Away is the 2008 radio version. I remember I heard it on the Top 40 on BFBS when it charted and it was the same version without the outro (unless the radio presenter just cut it but it would be weird because they usually play the new entries until the end)

I'm just a casual fan of hers, her music plastered all over the radio has been enough for me, but this might be my first Madonna cd i will actually buy, great list of songs on one package.
having said that, i have absolutely no idea what has been on her previous greatest hits collections.

Yes it is the most complete collection although 'Hollywood' and 'Miles Away' shouldn't be there even though I love them both. The two new songs are pretty weak too and so is the artwork. Otherwise yes it is the best compilation

As "complete" as it pretends to be, there are still a lot of songs missing, and they put it together in such a careless way that I've only listened to it once. neutral

Couple of corrections, most of what you call as "2009 edit" are regular single versions that were released at the time:

4 Minutes (Edit)
Ray Of Light (Radio Edit)
Sorry (Single Edit)
Express Yourself (Edit of the combination of the Video Version and the Remix/Edit, but as a result it's indeed an Edit of the Remix Video Version)
Secret (Edit)
Erotica (Radio Edit with one rushed edit at a point than on the single/GHV2)
Dress You Up (Album Version with shorter intro)
Lucky Star (not clear either, seems like the 1990 Q-Sound Mix but possibly an alternate mix from TIC that got remastered, or Album Version edited to 1990 Q-Sound Mix)
Frozen (Album Version with longer outro)
Miles Away (Radio Edit)
Beautiful Stranger (Austin Powers OST Version - GHV2 had William Orbit Radio Edit)
Hollywood (Album Version)
Don't Tell Me (Radio Edit - GHV2 had Album Version)
Cherish (2009 Edit of Album Version but essentially 1990 Q-Sound Mix)

Celebrations version of Justify My love is from the Immaculate Collection.

The single version for some reason does not have her whispering something strange in the fade out after Lenny Kravitz says "justify my love...." for the last time. I think Im the only one in the world that notices that boxed

It's something that's nice to listen to in the car but when I put it on my Ipod, I did a lot of heavy editing (putting some of my favorite hits in, changing some versions of songs, putting one CD reverse chronological order and the other in chronological, which is actually something one of the leaked tracklists did and that looked pretty cool). Maybe I'll post it later. The CD is probably good for causal fans, but I'm not sure that it was promoted very well so that they would know it's out there. It's on the shelves, but little is being said about it. Madonna appeared on Lettermen, but certainly on the wrong date (the day before the sex scandal broke), and she said nothing about the album although Lettermen gave it a decent plug before she came on.

Confusingly, all the tracks on The Immaculate Collection were mixed with Q-Sound - bar 'Justify My Love' and 'Rescue Me'. I think the Q-Sound mix of 'Justify My Love' is on the Maxi Single.

I wish there was a similar Madonna site to this Kylie site:

http://www.mixkylie.co.uk...ailable=on

It lists every single version of every single Kylie track - and which releases each differing mix appears on.

yep!

unless it's a complete singles collection, there's always going to be someone disappointed with the tracklisting because of a song or two. i actually think they did a good job with the tracks. i DO wish they had included "Rain" and "Gambler" though. see what i mean? lol i, however, do love both new tracks. i just wish her vocals weren't so muted in "Revolver". mad

the cover is neutral . i think it was Vinny that made a cover that was much better and SoulAlive posted a few fan ones that were far superior to the final project. but i love the inside artwork.

I believe that's a misunderstanding among fans. There's absolutely no sign anywhere in the credits that the last 2 songs are not Q-Sound mixed on TIC. Other than the difference paisleypark4 noted, the single version is the same as on TIC, I think it was called "Q-Sound Mix" for the sake of promo.

Now, I wonder if some of the Celebration remasters were done using the Q-Sound mixes just like that? Along with JML.

Yeah Gambler is the long lost classic isn't it? By the way 'Rain' is not a personal favourite of mine. It is one of a bunch of Madonna songs that actually don't impress me at all. I don't really hate it it just bores me.

If i had it my way i would get rid of:

-beautiful stranger
-hollywood
-die another day
-miles away (although i do like this song - it wasn't a hit)

and add...

-true blue
-causing a commotion
-rain or bad girl
- Angel smile (I love that song)

really? i could play that song over and over. i prefer the album version over the single mix though. i think it's beautiful. to me it's one of the standout tracks from the album. i also love rainy weather so that may play a part in it as well. lol.

yes. GAMBLER should get more credit. even from Madonna herself. one of the 1st and few rock styled songs she's done. just a great song in general. i wouldn't mind her doing an album with songs like that. rock out just a little bit Madonna. please... headbang lol

I completely agree on everything you said on your Gambler paragraph and on one thing on the Rain paragraph: That rainy weather is great. Other than that I think the song is really dull (georgeous video though). Everything u said about 'Rain', apply to me for 'Bad Girl'. I think that was the stand-out track from 'Erotica'... that and the title track... everything else had to grow on me, all eventually did and some I am already tired of ('Rain' among them) but 'Bad Girl' still remains cool

I'm with you on "Bad Girl" being that album's standout (and one of my favorites of Madonna's period). "Deeper and Deeper" would be my runner-up.
