I like Rihanna but I'm not into this whole whore era of hers. Why is it that everytime a music star (female of course) claims that they have come into their own, they drop their clothes? [Edited 12/17/09 8:36am]

I couldn´t figure out what was weird about her for me and you ve just nailed it. She seems emotionless. she has a nice body and she's cute but it's a shame she can only get people interested by being half naked. she doesn't have much appeal otherwise. "we make our heroes in America only to destroy them"

maybe she felt after evertyhing she feels she has 2 make some statement about it all being hers.

[Edited 12/16/09 10:35am] i dont know, but i wish all beautiful women with hot bodies would do the same. People still hard up about nudity? and she's not even nude. Do any of you feel the same when you open up Vogue magazine? Whats up with some calling her a whore? Now, that's pathetic. [Edited 12/17/09 5:58am]

Do any of you feel the same when you open up Vogue magazine? Whats up with some calling her a whore? Now, that's pathetic. For me, it's not a prudish issue with nudity or sexuality, or anything like that, it's just an issue with women only being presented as sex objects. People used to struggle against that kind of representation, because it was part of the reason women could never be taken seriously for anything else (brains, talent, etc); now it's dressed up as part of some kind of 'empowerment'. It is what it is, I guess, and it seems to be how things are these days, but I'm still not crazy about it. As deebee said, I have a problem when these chicks start taking off their clothes as some rule for empowerment. People have brought up a good point that when Madonna and Janet got naked 20 years ago, there was more to it. They owned it. Nowadays when its done, it comes across as contrived and completely fake. Aaaaaand it starts. Someone goes through something deep or hurtful or intense. Then their next album they start taking off their clothes, talking about how "this is the REAL me, this is how I feel, the album is very personal and blah blah blah". Aguilera did it (Stripped). Spears did it (one of her miserable albums; the one with Madonna on it). Madonna did it (Like A Prayer is probably the closest to that theory because it was one of her most personal albums). P!INK did it, a bit, after her first album (although she's a real bad ass!) Even Janet, whom I love, came out all nipple pierced and tattooed and rubber laden with The Velvet Rope. I guess its Rihanna's turn.
She was on Fuse the other day yammering on about how this album isn't angry, but rather a wide range of emotions. Some days she was happy, some she was angry, some she was moody.....yadda yadda yadda. As if an artist being personal on an album is some new concept. That's what happens when you're a packaged product, and a puppet of a record company. You forget who the fuck you are, then they come out a few years later talking about how THIS is their first REAL album, and THIS album is THEM. "Exposing my inner self"..yeah, and your boobies.

Madonna was doing it before Janet had RN1814 out. These bitches today aren't thinking back to Like A Prayer or whatever. There's something in the industry, someone, some idealism, that says "this is the thing to do on your third or fourth album". They're all feeding off each other, not what Janet or Madonna did 25 years ago.

Madonna never had that. and where did these "someones" get the idea to go a certain direction on their albums? From other female artists that did it years ago.

You tell me. Apparently only Madonna and Janet are the "take your clothes off to bare your soul, and your clitoris, in your book. Either way, I'm not here to split hairs. My point stands about Rihanna.
