Rock N Roll Hall of Fame Recepients: Genesis, The Stooges, Abba, Iggy Pop

Mamma Mia! Can you feel the Raw Power, Fernando? Or is it just an Invisible Touch?

The Phil Collins-fronted prog-to-pop rockers Genesis, Swedish superstars ABBA, and Iggy Pop’s lust-for-lifers the Stooges lead the pack in this upcoming year’s Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees. Reggae great Jimmy Cliff and ’60s Brit-rock pioneers the Hollies will also be honored.

Each band (including the seven-times-rejected Stooges) is scheduled to perform at the ceremony, which takes place March 15, 2010 in New York City and will air live on Fuse; ABBA, however, have not appeared live together since late 1982, and have famously turned down all previous reunion enticements (including a now-legendary offer of $1 billion in 2000).

The group’s Benny Andersson says the odds are “99 to 1″ they’ll be there. “It’s very tricky because Agnetha [Fältskog] is not flying,” he told Rolling Stone. “The people who are really fond of ABBA for what we did, I think we are doing them a favor by not going out.”

Genesis keyboardist Tony Banks, says he’s working on getting the long-departed Peter Gabriel to participate in the show, though it’s not guaranteed: “Peter is a bit elusive, but I’ll probably talk to him soon and see if he has any concept of what he wants to do. I don’t feel a great need to play. I’m happy just to drink.”

What do you think of this year’s winners, readers, and the likelihood/promise of their reunion performances? And what about the the ones who failed to make the cut—among them, Kiss, LL Cool J, the Red Hot Chili Peppers, and Donna Summer?

That's not a bad list. One nominee that failed to get in this year, though, is Darlene Love and I think she's as worthy of any of them.

Oh BTW Iggy Pop is a member of the Stooges, the 5th inductee is Jimmy Cliff.

Stooges have been passed over for years and I'm happy for them. I have to imagine they're gonna knock over some cocktail glasses when they hit the stage.

I wouldn't be shocked if the Stooges boycotted the Hall of Fame next year. I was shocked they weren't inducted the year prior. smh

They need to induct nine acts again. This five-act is getting ridiculous. Then again like they give a shit about who they induct. The Chantels may get in as an "early influence" like they did Wanda Jackson.

Are you including Iggy Pop as part of the Stooges or as a solo act, too? Iggy Pop's great, but that is an awfully white lineup!

but ABBA is a total breakthrough as ABBA largely ignored the North American market in their heyday.

That's a problem with the Hall of Fame. They induct acts too damn late. lol Their way of inducting artists is real stupid.

Yeah, we'll see if Abba, all 4, actually show up and perform. It'd be nice though. And will Peter Gabriel and Phil and all of Genesis show up and perform? There were a few incarnations of the band over the years.

ABBA ain't gonna reunite. Mark my words. As for Genesis, you can bet they will. Phil will play drums while Peter sings.

i think ABBA will be there i don't think Benny would have said he's pretty damn sure all will be there if they hadn't talked. Agnetha probably was the hold out but they probably booked her on a cruise or something.

I could care less if any of these people ever show up. Damn, either yes or no. What's with all the scratching your head digging in your ass about? They need to start putting their name(s) on plaque, screw it into a wall, play A song of each inductee, and go home.

Phil has a lot of physical problems from playing drums, and has stopped playing them. I wonder if he'll try to work around his condition and pain to play for the RNRHOF, IF he shows up.

The Stooges are finally in! They should have been in a long time ago. I think Genesis is the first prog-rock band to get in (even though they went "pop" in the 80s). I thought Yes, King Crimson, and Rush would be in by now for prog-rock.

Kiss should have been in a long time ago, too.

Donna Summer and Chic should be in by now....or is the "disco backlash" from the 70s still going on?
