Do you think Erykah Badyu will be considered one of the greats?

I think she has a unique persona and voice, but beyond that, not sure.

I agree. She lost me after "Baduism". After that, she seemed to sound just like everyone else.

How is Neosoul boring? Ol Girl has some chops. She tore it up on the Soul Train Chaka tribute. Graycap, why are you so emphatic?

The slow tempo of most neo-soul tracks are worse than shit-hop/rhythmless bullshit (r&b).

She is alot more eclectic than her peers...especially after these last two albums...I think people are still judging on the first two albums wich were more slower and more contemporary....but the last album...is definitley not so "neo soul" as people would put it..its OUT THERE omg

She's fucking amazing. For people to even call her Neo Soul obviously doesn't know much her stuff. She started to move away from that "title" with Momma's Gun then solidified it with Worlwide Underground. What she did on Nu Amerykah was so daring and beautful. I consider her great, and i hope she gets the respect that she deserves.

Oh wait this was the same high and mighty forum that tried to shit on her when she had another baby. I swear all you guys do is bitch and complain. If it ain't a jackson they are getting dissed.

There's so much good music out there. And I laugh at the people who call Hip Hop Shit Hop as if there isn't good rap out there. You just have to look for it, because we all know good shit isn't being played on the radio.

Ok I'll step down from my Soapbox.

Yes I love Erykah.

It's boring because, just like other genre's, it starts to sound the same. As for that Soul Train performance, I had not idea what she was singing. Like I said, her debut was the great and the follow up was okay. After that, she decided to tweak her sound that really did not need tweaking. This is when she she decided to sound like everyone else and lost me.

Huh? I'm so confused by this. If anything she was sounding like everybody on her first record and some of her second. What other R&B record do you listen to that has chanting for 3 minutes after a song? Have you heard I want u? Dude, you are talking about what you don't know. I bet you haven't even heard her new stuff. Matter of fact I guarantee it.

I want u is funny as hell. You can go in the kitchen and
make a damn sandwich before she starts singing on it.

No I have and it all is starting to sound the same....boring, tired and played... People think that just because it is called "Neo Soul", that it is some different shyt...Well, guess what...It's the same old R&B, just sung slower, so that we can understand what they are singing. Just like R&B, it can get old. For me, her debut, was like a breath of fresh air, just like Jill's and Musique's debut. After awhile, their "sound", just became the same ol' same old; so much so, I just stopped listening to all of them...the material that they have been putting out since their debut's just does nothing for me....

I love Erykah.
She goes all sorts of places and I'm happy to go with her.
I especially love Other side of the Game and Danger- two beautiful songs about how love exists in that gangsta environment.

You obviously have not heard the last two experiemntal albums...tweak her sound to "sound like eveybody else"????? What are you kidding me? Amerykan Promise? The Healer? The Cell? That Hump? I Want You? Me? Annie? What??!?!?!? Got to be kidding me...seriously.

She tweaked her sound to be more funky, more out there and really set herself apart from the Jill Scott Maxwell and Dwele's. After these last two I would'nt almost even consider her a Neo Soul artist.

I'm not sure if some people on here know enough to be typing in this thread.

Yes, I have head those albums that you speak of and they don't move me as much as her debut. Yes, she has indeed tweaked her sound. Her sound has become WAAAAY over the top. To the point where it has started to sound unfocused and just like everything thing else out there.

OMG, THANK YOU! She is so beautiful. I didn't want her portion to end. Love the hair and accessories. I thought it was going to be all Erykah but I did really like Chaka joining in with Angie to sing.
