The Who is announced to play at halftime at Super Bowl XLIV As was announced on CBS yesterday during halftime of the Dallas Cowboys/Oakland Raiders game, The Who has been selected to play the halftime show during Super Bowl XLIV.
http://www.nfl.com/superb...nfirm=true What are your thoughts? Is the NFL deliberately appealing to rapidly aging Boomer football fans? Or are they still freaked out about putting on younger acts because of the whole Janet Jackson episode?

The Who. They're a legendary rock band from the 60's and 70's. Or for those of you under 30, they're the band with the songs which are opening themes for all of the CSI shows.

Seriously, no one has cared about The Who since the 20th century. "Lack of home training crosses all boundaries."

The thing is that you are always gonna have to go this route, i know people are saying get a younger act, but lets face it, music doesnt sell, are music personalities today are not relevant in everyones lives. Millions and Millions watch the superbowl, and you want someone on that stage that sold 250,000 downloads of a 99 cent single? I'm not suggesting that they book Soulja Boy or Drake for the Super Bowl Halftime show, but there are somewhat younger artists who have a long career history that could play the halftime show like Madonna, Bon Jovi, the Foo Fighters, Pearl Jam, Mariah Carey, Tim McGraw, Jay-Z, or even Beyonce.

Out of that Jovi and Beyonce would be the only ones that could do it on a grand world scale. Tim Mcgraw is a big seller to one part of the country, Jay Z is not crossover despite what he thinks, Alicia Keys is approaching this kind of world status, Mariah could do it, but she would need someone to put something together for her. The foo fighters and Pearl Jam are great bands but still not relevant enough in the grand picture. Madonna is too risky for tv despite her age, they barely let Prince do it. Billy Joel and Elton John should have been chosen as a dual performance that would be something that would blow the last few years away in a heartbeat [Edited 11/27/09 17:19pm] "We went where our music was appreciated, and that was everywhere but the USA, we knew we had fans, but there is only so much of the world you can play at once" Magne F

Why? The Who only has two of its members remaining, the should be called Rog and Pete now or Daltry & Townshend. Of all the acts in the world, the gotdamedn Who, wtf!
The Rolling Stones really stank as a half-time act a few years back. The stadium needs to rock with some thump and funk, not "Tommy" or "Pinball Wizard". I can think of many acts in r&b/funk that would have been better than The Who. Most of the NFL players are African-American, and I am quite sure many don't even know whom The Who are. Maybe Pete Townshend can get a peak in the boys room at some wee-wees LOL. Music Royalty in Motion

The Two are going to rock the half time show. I do not know if any of you guys talking negatively about them have seen them recently. I have seen them twice since Entwistle passed away and they are still amazing. It is like Pete realized he had to take his guitar playing to another level. Hopefully Starkey will be on drums. I think you guys are in for a treat. [Edited 11/28/09 10:54am]
