Yeah, but that was minor compared to TLC's brand of drama. Burning down a house, domestic abuse, one member challenging the others to a solo cd competition, rehab, Lisa going missing...etc. I suppose it was mainly Lisa's drama but Dawn's didn't even compare, or it just wasn't as publicized.

I agree envogue could sing circles around TLC but as far as performance, style, music and production it is TLC. Crazysexycool is the best girl cd since the supremes . One of the few cd I could play and not have to skip any songs. "Remember, one man's filler is another man's killer" -- Haystack

Maybe it is because En Vouge werent big in Australia but the film clips and music I've seen and heard of them now come across as just as desperate as I feel The Bangles were in the 80's. TLC oozed coolness. En Vogue were another bunch of wannabes.

Em I wouldn't call En Vogue as wannabes. They were among the most successful girl groups of the early 90s (and not just in the US)

And they were as classy as they come... even Dawn controlled herself and hid most of the crazy. "Whitney was purely and simply one of a kind." ~ Clive Davis

I didnt hear of them untill I started watching those American vh1 back to the 90's shows. They just give me the same vibe as watching a bunch of teenage girls pretending to be famous in front of a mirror, just like the Bangles.

They were certainly successful worldwide (including your country). UK: 4 Top-10 singles, 4 Top-20 singles, 2 Top-10 albums Australia: 4 Top-10 singles (2 #2's), 1 Top-20 single, 1 Top-20 album New Zealand: 3 Top-10 singles (1 #2) The Netherlands: 2 Top-10 singles (1 #2), 3 Top-20 singles, 1 Top-20 album Ireland: 4 Top-10 singles, 2 Top-20 singles Germany: 1 Top-10 single, 1 Top-10 album Their biggest worldwide hit is "Don't Let Go (Love)," which was a top-10 hit in several countries. Thats not really that successful compared to what actual big artists achieve. Thats more what an average artist does. I'm not saying they were complete unknowns, but your statistics kind of proves my point that they werent big.

TLC.
En Vogue didn't do anything eye-popping or out of the ordinary. To me, they were just there

I have been around music and loved music my entire life. Therefor, the most important part of a "singer" is the vocals. I have always been uncomfortable with someone's looks or personality being the catalyst for a successful singing career.
It also boils down to preference I suppose, because "hood" girls in appearance or attitude have never attracted me. I know a lot of girls identified with TLC, but I personally love women who look and act like ladies for the most part. So while I like TLC and have their first two albums, based upon vocals and style, I have to go with En Vogue. This was tough because of the different styles. I am convinced Beyonce's career would not be where it is, if she had dark skin.

I actually feel the same vocals are the most important part of a singer. Plus the fact that all singers in envogue were good enough to be lead singer says a lot. I guess if we look at cd to cd then I go with TLC because I think that cd was so tight! And I really did like the unique and distinguisable (sp?) personas of tlc. I truly didn't know who was who in envogue. It wad only later after leading group that dawn began to stand out. My head (and ear) says Envogue but my heart says tlc. En Vogue...
To me, TLC borrowed too heavily from the current culture at the time...ie, Bel Biv Devo for the first album, then they switched their image to Janet and so on and so on. At least En Vogue borrowed from the past and made it their own. Heck, TLC's one original spin was the condoms and that was a Pebbles idea. Space for sale...

Nah, sorry...I don't agree with that. A judge would have invalidated that contracted if he/she discovered that Pebbles misrepresented it somehow. Don't blame her if the three girls were stupid enough to sign the contract. Besides, their wouldn't be no TLC if it wasn't for Pebbles... Space for sale...
