Who's gonna watch "The Disco Ball" tonight? Dust off the platform shoes, send the leisure suit to the cleaners, and get ready to get down and funky, because ABC is throwing an all-star party celebrating that phenonemon called disco!
This once-in-a-lifetime event was taped at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles---and the Shrine never looked so cool! Legendary performers of the Disco era,as well as some of todays' biggest stars, will jump onto multiple stages and perform the classics that defined the Disco era, including: **Whoopi Goldberg & Martha Wash---"It's Raining Men" **Gloria Gaynor---"I Will Survive" **Usher---"Ain't No Stopping Us Now" **The Village People---"Macho Man" & "YMCA" **Mya---"Turn The Beat Around" **KC & The Sunshine Band--"Shake Your Booty" and "Get Down Tonight" **Irene Cara---"Flashdance...What A Feeling" **Chic---"Le Freak" **Aaron Carter---"I Just Want To Be Your Everything" **Taylor Dayne---"I Love The Nightlife" **Roselyn Sanchez---"Hot Stuff" **The Spinners---"Workin My Way Back To You" **The Trammps featuring Earl Young---"Disco Inferno" **Nicki French---"Total Eclipse Of The Heart" **Natural---featuring a "Saturday Night Fever" musical tribute---"Stayin Alive","How Deep Is Your Love" & "You Should Be Dancing"---Wilmer Valderrama (That 70s Show) makes a special dance appearance **Cheryl Lynn---"Got To Be Real" Adding spice to this already tangy event is a special Disco fashion show, featuring some of the most outrageous models ever seen as they strut down the catwalk to the tune of "Dancing Queen". Ticket receipts benefited AIDS Project Los Angeles, one of the nations's largest service organizations. The show airs Thursday January 16 at 8/7c on ABC TV. How can you have a disco show without my girl aka The Queen Of Disco.

Yeah,I can't believe that "The Queen Of Disco" is not gonna be on this show! Instead, they have somebody else (Roselyn Sanchez?) performing "Hot Stuff"??!! How lame is that?

You're right about that. Instead of these 2002 artists, couldn't they have invited some more original disco artists who were actually alive when disco started? Some of those artists have moved to Europe and Asia where they're still constantly in demand, making loads of money and are more accepted than America (these KKK racist idiots discarded disco as too black, because most of them can't dance and they were jealous of brown and black people becoming rich and famous from it). Disco was and still is great, mindblowing music where you could really dance with real singers and musicians playing live instruments instead of the crap toybox sounds and people that pass for so-called singers they call music today. I hope there's a revival and that it replaces a lot of crap that's on the radio and tv today. Lennytunia

P.S. Either Donna Summer was unavailable for personal reasons, or she simply disagreed with the presentations on this program. Because she was definitely one of the first disco superstars who capitalized and became really famous from disco. She had a 2-hour concert highlighting her entire career in disco 2 years ago on HBO cable and she received rave reviews. Lennytunia

Sorry, instead of 2002 artists, I meant contemporary artists. Lennytunia

I'll watch. But as soon as Aaron Carter opens his mouth, I'm changing the channel.

Only thing that doesnt sound right is the Aaron Carter performance. What the heck is that shit?
I want to see him on this show about as much I want to take a crap in public. "Great dancers are not great because of their technique, they are great because of their passion" -- Martha Graham

I'm definitely going to either watch or tape it. There's alot of tv shows on tonight...mostly smut but I wanna watch them. I think I can tolerate Usher at least to watch him dance, but I can skip Mya. Her voice doesn't grab me. You know when K.C. and the Sunshine Band performs y'all will be shaking it down. Well, did you guys watch it? As someone who absolutely loves 70s Disco music,I didn't dare miss it.The highlights for me were Taylor Dayne singing "I Love The Nightlife" (I've had a crush on her for years...lol),Cheryl Lynn's performance (it was so good to see her again after all these years),and the Martha Wash/Whoopi Goldberg duet of "It's Raining Men" was alot of fun too.
Even The Village People put on a cool performance.Usher's performance of "Ain't No Stoppin Us Now" was visually exciting (he's a great dancer, although he borrows a little too heavily from MJ),but his rendition of the song fell flat, imo. And who were those awful guys doing the 'Saturday Night Fever' medley? Aaaarrrggghhh!! Irene Cara looked great, and it was good to see her again. And is it me,or is Paula Abdul looking better and better these days? Surprisingly,Chic's performance of "Le Freak" wasn't very exciting,it was way too slow! Likewise, the Trammps rendition of "Disco Inferno" sounded kinda bland, imo. But Gloria Gaynor kicked ass during "I Will Survive'. Overall,it was a great show and if you were around back then (the late 70s),this show was kinda like going down memory lane.

Here in Detroit we still hustle but it's a litt different from what you might remember . The 90's dance the Electric Slide is somewhat un update of the 70's The Hustle as some of the steps are similiar to that of the hustle.
