The interviewer Toure was the one who steered the conversation towards hip hop anyway. He's been writing about rap for too long, and thinks it is the centre of everything.
He was even trying to get Lady Gaga to name names within rap, but she's too smart to play that game. By that point though, she had already been tricked to focusing on the only genre Toure writes about.

Well comments have been made by various ladies that have worked with these rappers on videos, saying that they are more femine than they are, females like Esther Baxter,Coco,Vida Guerra all have said names of different rappers that were hiding the truth, from themselves pretty much. Fact is nothing will ever be confirmed in that genre, i mean Everyone in hollywood knows Tom Cruise is but it will never be confirmed, and yet everyone knows it, kind of like Ryan Searcrest "We went where our music was appreciated, and that was everywhere but the USA, we knew we had fans, but there is only so much of the world you can play at once" Magne F

TonyVanDam said: ernestsewell said: Glad you brought that up. Let's touch on THAT hypocrisy for a moment. Throughout the evening, ABC kept announcing "Coming up, a performance by Adam Lambert that you'll be talking about tomorrow!" or "....that you won't want to miss!" They promoted it like it was going to be eye popping, and saved it as the finale to the show, which just happens to land around 11 p.m. THEN after the performance, ABC won't show it to the west coast as we saw it on the east coast. When you watch the performance, you can see them trying to cut away during certain times (like the oral sex, kissing the keyboard player), yet failed to cut anything out live. The View wasn't allowed to show it today, because it was "inappropriate". Yet they showed Madonna's tongue hockey match with Britney and Christina over and over when that happened. How is not vulgar to see lesbians, but not gay men? It's gender, and sexual discrimination, and damn near homophobic. Parents balked because their kids saw some homos having fun. My question becomes WHY AREN'T YOUR KIDS IN BED AT 11 P.M.???? 2 WORDS: sexual hypocrites We in general are quick to negativity criticize gay men, but yet we love to put lipstick lesbians & bisexual women on display at every opportunity possible. This problem happens very offer in rap videos. And now it looks like the ABC Network are letting the double standards happen under their watch as well. That's because those assholes enjoy watching two women together because their little jalapeno dicks aren't big enough to satisfy a woman so they get off on watching someone that actually can satisfy a woman. And then they have the nerve to even ask lesbians if they can join in and have sex with them. Well, I guess so. It's not often that a lesbian gets with a man, if ever, so she's not going to know if a dick is good or not because it's something she's not used to. But a straight woman who is used to dicks would laugh their little vienna sausages out of here. And then they have the nerve to hate gay men. Oh, it takes me to talk about those hypocrital assholes. I've had years of practice. Andy is a four letter word.

Hip hop didnt say gay couple couldnt get married, nor did hip hop say that gays couldnt join the military. Hip hop doesnt discriminate. Its the fucking government. If alot of these rappers are homophobic then its because of society's standards - America created homophobia. Homophobia was around long before America, as we know it, was. I don't think that discrimination against gay people was just all of a sudden created by mankind after the formation of America. Homophobia was/is not exclusive to America and exists throughout every part of the world.

As far homophodia in hiphop, some of hiphop artists do speak on it, of course, most notable Kanye West. But this is just it: She only mentioned an unnamed artist... who happened to be a rapper. It was Touré who drew out the genre. And the problems with Kanye, again, are 1) What hip hoppers besides him are speaking out?; and 2) Since he spoke out most notably years ago, what's he done since then? Meanwhile, he's jumped on the "no homo" bandwagon. WTH!?! ...I recall Common did "Between Me, U and Liberation," where he not so much spoke affirmingly about LGBTs, but at least did call out the hypocrisy of those who speak of liberation while tacitly oppressing LGBTs among others. That was awesome, especially given some of the AWFUL things in Common's lyrics before that. But what has he said since then? [Edited 11/23/09 19:40pm] Ὅσον ζῇς φαίνου

Yes Victorian England had its various sexual hang ups and practices well documented and written about in modern times. Many of America's founders brought these types of belief systems and implanted them into the American culture. So I suppose that the kinds of attitudes and prejudices towards gay people in America are largely from a Victorian view of sexuality. But you could also find, in various other cultures, such as in certain parts of Asia like China, Japan and Russia for example, where homosexuality is also considerably frowned upon and people are disowned by their families because of sexual preference. There has always been varying degrees throughout history in terms of what was viewed as being either tolerable or intolerable. Even The Romans, who were not known for being the most tolerant of people(s), did not seem to have much of a problem with homosexuality. Same with The Greeks. So some cultures were more accepting of it than others. That still does not change the fact that there are other countries and cultures dealing with their own issues of homophobia which are not traced back to England.
