The lighting and the camera shots for Sting's performance on the 'Today Show' sucked.

It's a song from a non-traditional "Christmas" album.
What I mean by non-traditional is that he didn't go the route of most "artists" who simply rehash the same horrorday songs you've heard a zillion times already (that generally never even come close to equaling or surpassing the original).

I guess "what happened" is that he decided to think outside the box. Good for him.

Agreed 100%
I understand he likes to chances and not spoon feed his true fans. Good for him.
And yes I have his new album, the deluxe edition. smile
Not for everyone for sure. I like different and unexpected things from artists.

I have everything except the Hits collection of his solo career. I just like Sting, so I'll buy and probably enjoy it.

yeah....i heard the new album

and it sounds like something my right wing religious cousins would listen to on Christmas morning or something

Sting is pretty much easy listening these days

was hoping he would stick it out with the Police but guess he grew tired of that

he is a genius though.....just nowhere near how he used to be

Nothing Like the Sun tour was amazing w/Branford Marsalis, etc.

I kinda like the new Sting. I've always been more of a fan of his pop/R&B/jazzy side more than anything.

He and Stevie Wonder did a kick-ass live rendition of "Brand New Day" at the Neighborhood ball:

I like his new stuff. I could alternate between this new and the old version of "Gabriel's Message" for hours.

And trust me, if your "right wing religious cousins" are paying attention -- and they're Americans -- they probably ain't singing about soul cakes and such. smile

Wow, didn't you watch the whole show and listen to his explanation of the historical reason behind "Soul Cake?" If you want to put Sting in some box of your own design, you've got the wrong guy! razz sad

I wish I could put all my musical heroes in a time capsule where they never get old, grow bald, or gain weight unlike myself. Hell, I need to move to that time capsule!

Right!
This isn't exactly "right-wing religious" type stuff. And very very non-american.
Glad to see some love for Sting and his eclectic nature around here though.
