16. The Flaming Lips: Yoshimi Battles The Pink Robots

This one seems to have lasting power in peoples' minds, but I never quite got what they are hearing, myself.

Oh Yoshimi, they don't believe me
but you won't let those robots eat me
Yoshimi, they don't believe me
but you won't let those robots defeat me
music

It's a worthy inclusion on the list, for sure!

I'm not too familiar with these albums/artists. Can somebody school me?

28. Mastodon: Leviathan

Mastodon are sort of a Metal band, with Prog Rock touches too. This album has Moby Dick as a general theme (choice lyric "White whale - Holy grail!" would you believe!)
Definitely an acquired taste, and if you don't like your music heavy, stay away!

Their more recent album, Crack The Skye, is better, for my money, and has more of a classic Prog Rock feel than Leviathon.
This is not an exit

I'm not saying it's better or not (because I think it is). Speakerboxx/The Love Below had a bigger impact on this decade than Stankonia did.

Yeah, but the only impact that album made culturally was "Hey Ya".

Pretty much only for that year.

If you played that song today, people would get really annoyed.

However, if you played B.O.B., Miss Jackson, or So Fresh So Clean today. It would as old heads would say "Turn a Party Out".

Even 1 or 2 years after that album when the backlash would come. That album still bumped!!!

i agree....Stankonia really made everyone notice Outkast take hip-hop to another level

Thanks. I'm not a metal fan, but I'll check out some of their tunes on youtube.

What an arbitrary list! Interesting. I only have four of these CDs anyway:

04. The Bad Plus: These Are The Vistas
12. Danger Mouse: The Grey Album
15. Eminem: The Marshall Mathers LP
21. Norah Jones: Come Away With Me

Not sure I would have listed any of these on a '50 Most Important' list though... neutral
