The last time her vocals were great was around 2001 during Glitter.

Sadly it gets worse.

She didn't take good care of her voice as the years went on, and while I do believe that vocal nodules issue played a part, there could have been more to it like partying post Tommy Mottola, and resorting to bad habits like smoking or drinking. She w

She might have been unhappy around Mottola, but Mottola kept her disciplined as shit and pushed her toward excellence.

Her music after 2000 leaves a lot to desired for.

Emancipation of Mimi was a good album, but doesn't compare to her self-titled, Music Box, Emotions, Daydream, or Butterfly.

I agree. Do you think she had a nose job and that could have messed up her voice a bit? Her nose looks different to me!

Nah. I don't think it was that.

I think her undisciplined lifestyle after divorcing Tommy Mottola was the biggest factor. She was partying afterwards.

Mariah's problem is that she doesnt have someone smart around her to help her adjust to her vocal loss. Its basic 101 shit, you get older, and you adjust. Elton John had his vocal chords operated on and had a cancer scare back in 1988, the surgery took away his infamous high notes that he could hit all through the 70's-80's. But he changed the arrangements of the old songs, he got deeper in his register, reworked things because he just couldnt go there anymore, Mariah has never changed any arrangements of any songs, WHY? i have no clue other than that no one around her is smart enough to realize the issues.

I just tuned for a little bit of her concert that was on FUSE.

I would've sworn she was lip syncing during Fantasy.

The song started with her walking on stage from the crowd during O.D.B's rhyme and the beginning of her verse and that shit sounded EXACTLY like it did on the album with no vocal dips at all!

To me her adlibs sounded pre recorded, too.

Later on in the song it sounded like she was singing live, but that 1st part of the song had be thinking.

Was Mariah lip syncing?

If she was, why? She's supposed to be one of the best voices in Pop Music! 5 Octave Range, and all that.

It's not like she was dancing hard like Janet. Not that Janet has an excuse. She was just walking her ass through the crowd to the stage!!!

Has anyone seen this concert? Has anyone seen Mariah live in the past few years?

No but she did say that she doesn't belt out her songs anymore because she is an R&B fan and she finds belting out all the time boring or something like that

Oh, yeah. She's right, though. I really enjoy her singing style more now than when she was squeezing the fuck out of every note hug

I wish she would sqeeze something out of me.

She hasn't. Same ole nose, but just make-up shading tricks so the light reflects on it differently when she's on on film.

I love Mariah and all of her music. However I do find her early work boring. Good but boring.

They are pretty dated now and days and are boring I agree especially Music Box and Daydream in my opinion.

I adore Daydream, but I have to agree on Music Box. I like Anytime You Need a Friend, Now That I Know, Music Box and I've Been Thinking About You - the rest is just boring.

She does sound stupid sometimes when she is speaking but she does have a sense of humour I must say. The parts she was talking about her mother in Larry King and about visiting Australia in the australian interview from this year (I think) were really funny.
Looking at the tracklist of that remix album I think she will attempt a Madonna 2003 and try to have hits riding on the success of others (Beyonce & Alicia Keys). I think she is bound to fail just as Madonna's duet with Britney did. And please do we really need any further slaughtering of 'I Want To Know What Love Is'? Her version was bad enough, do we really need to 'improve' it more by bringing Jadakiss on board?

I just had to pull up this thread to say that Mariah just f'd up Letterman. Girlfriend was trying hard to push out the notes and many times nothing but whistle and air came out. Then she'd throw out a dog-whistle to try and distract from all the notes she missed. The song was beautiful, too! Something about "I can't wait to hate you...." I see you, Mimi!!! I know all your tricks!!

That's no the point. The point is she can't sing the way she used to sing live performances.

What does age have anything to do with it?

Many singers sound great when they get older.
