Sorry. I made a mistake. The Pat Metheny Group is nominated for Best Contemporary Jazz Album not Contemporary Jazz Peformance. Still if they win in the jazz category, it will be their 9th consecutive album to win in a jazz category of any type. Plus Pat got a nod for best instumental solo for {IMO one of the PMG's best pieces.."Proof"} and the group also got a nod for best pop instrumental for "As It Is".

Many fusion and jazz fans thought that the Pat Metheny Group's 2002 record Speaking Of Now was a let down{claiming no new ground was broken} However I think Pat and Lyle Mays presented a solid recording of pure improvisation, great compositions with beautiful melodies and stellar musicianship. Maybe not their best record, but better than 90% of the stuff that came out in the pop and R&b field in 2002. Thus, I recommend this album to those that want to hear some REAL music played by some REAL musicians. Get it, you won't be sorry{one of the year's best records}. Plus their concert{here in Atlanta} from their 2002 Speaking Of Now tour was a masterwork. 3+ hours of pure unadulterated beauty.

It will be interesting to see how Norah Jones will fare at the grammies.

Indie Arie didn't get the grammy nod for Album Of The Year as many had hoped.

This list makes me physically ill.

Know this: Springsteen will win his first ever Grammy for Album of the Year.

It has themes Grammy voters love, Springsteen has never won an Album of the Year Grammy in his 30 years in music, and by doing it it'll make the Grammy voters feel warm and fuzzy.

I'm glad Ashanti wasn't nominated in any of the major categories except Best New Artist.

With some of the less than commerically successful picks on here, I'm surprised Prince didn't make it on for Rainbow Children... oh well...

Nice to see Mr. Costello getting some nods. Sadly, I don't know much of the material represented... Where have I been??

Isn't it surprising that despite The Neptunes practically producing everyone's songs last year that they got snubbed in the Best Producer catagory? IMO this years Grammy Nominations have the be the worst (with the exception of Raphel and Eryka Badu's nomminations) for quite some time. It makes my blood boil that Marvin Gaye, Little Richard to Jimi Hendrix were constanly overlooked for their innovative work and yet utter crappy puppets like Britney and Ahsitty etc get accoknolwedged in major categories! But then again I shouldn't be surprised...those Grammy ppl KNEW back in 1989 that Milli Vanilli didn't sing on their album and they still won for best new artists.

Nothing to do with the Grammys surprises me. They always snub someone.

I think by them being more-Free-Lance Producers might not work in there favor??most of the time when a Producer gets Nominated they are linked with a Artist or Artists??but the Grammys won't give it up too them unless they are still dropping Hits for at least a few more years.a funny business.
