to be honest this was a Michael Jackson tour not a Jackson 5/Jacksons tour so it doesnt exactly surprise me that the majority of the songs chosen were from his solo albums. Sure he could have put in a couple of songs from the Motown solo albums but this tour was aimed at the casual fan not just the hardcore and his early songs just arent played that much on the radio (except a few jackson ones) here in the UK.
So he played the songs the masses wanted to hear, after all its normally better to please the majority not the minority of the audience. There are always going to be fans out there that wouldnt be happy unless he played a whole setlist of obscure album songs/b-sides, but the majority would have walked away happy with what they got. Also we dont know the whole setlist from 'This is it' we already know it is missing Dirty Diana, Stranger in Moscow, Heal the World, We're the World and You are not alone (also possible dont stop till you get enough and who is it). so how do you know there wasnt a plan for another meledy within the concert? I do wish he had done Who Is It live. Every fan wanted that song performed live, it must've ended up being one of the top choices on that little online poll they did on michaeljacksonlive.com. MJ must've known what a fan favourite that song is.

I agree. He knew. As sad as it is that Michael is gone, I'm so glad his concerts sold out, and he got to see that. I'm so glad he died knowing the people still embraced him, verses him having to think his fans had turned their backs on him. As for "Who Is It" - it is the first MJ song I ever heard, the song that made me a fan, so you can guess how I felt about it. All I can say is, enjoy that clip of him singing it on Oprah and beat-boxing it. (I also have a remix, you might have, which features some ad libs not heard in the studio version of the song, with him singing, "She don't want it. She don't want it." ) If you want it, feel free to org-note me. I know it is a long way from hearing it live, but I feel your pain. MJ Fan 1992-Forever

That is actually in the studio version, it's just drowned out. If anyone has the Dangerous DVD, you can take out one of the 5.1 audio channels and many of them sound like acapellas or stripped mixes. The Who Is It vocal channel has the "extra" ad-libs. I took out all of the 5.1 audio acapella channels and uploaded them to an MJ site a while back. On Gone Too Soon, you can hear MJ clear his throat before singing. Rock With You has some of the synth work... it's very cool to listen to. [Edited 11/6/09 7:32am]

I just wish he had got to walk on stage opening night because the fans would have destroyed that O2 they had no idea what was coming. As was proved at the news conference when they said 'Michael fans were just like beyonce fans' all we said at the time was you have no idea whats coming do you, and the reponse we got was 'all fans say they are the best/craziest'. I got an apology afterwards I can only imagine how much crazier it would have been for the real thing. Especially considering it was a seated event and people were already saying everyone was just gonna rush the stage when he came on (seriously whos smart idea to do seated Michael concerts? outside of Japan, you would think they would remember Mexico Dangerous tour where the fans apparently just ran over the seats) I would have liked him to have walked on that stage and seen all those people going crazy and for him to know that he was still loved. Sure he knew the fans loved him, we had the arguement with him about who loved who the most numerous times but it would have been so nice to just let him have that moment. but in all honestly i would swap all the concerts and future music etc for him to come back, i couldnt care less now if he had done nothing With Love there is no Death

That's not what they are going to the concert for. They want to sing along to every single song. So, it has to be the big hits. If it's some $10 concert, then maybe he could sing all the lesser known songs. [Edited 11/5/09 15:18pm] If that were the case he shouldn't have sang "Heartbreak Hotel" during the Bad tour, afterall compare with BEAT IT, that wasn't a big hit. Stop being so narrow minded. Probably a 19 year old, casual fan wouldn't know anything pre-Thriller or pre-Bad, but I can ensure you many older, casual fans i.e in their late 30s/40s knew MJ existed way before Thriller and they probably know more about his music in general than the 25 year old "hard-core" fan, whose fandom always seem to start with Dangerous. Michael Jackson’s recent triumph at the movies spills over to the US album charts with the “This Is It” CD topping the Billboard album chart this week.
The companion soundtrack to the worldwide number one movie is Jackson’s sixth number one album on the Billboard 200. The gloved one's previous number one albums were “Thriller,” “Bad,” “Dangerous,” “HIStory,” and “Invincible.” Jackson continues to be a money maker even after death, with past efforts like “Number Ones” and the aforementioned “Thriller” recently hitting the charts anew following his death last June 25. His greatest hit set “Number Ones” is the best-selling album of 2009. Though the new Jackson album has only one new song and tracks that were already included in previous releases, “This Is It” still managed to move 373,000 copies for the week ending Nov. 1. “This Is It,” a demo recording which dates back 1991, is a song Jackson co-wrote with Neil Sedaka and is heard in the closing credits of Jackson’s movie about the preparations and rehearsals for his planned residency at the O2 Arena in London. The track-listing in the CD follows the order of how the songs appeared in the movie. “This Is It” (the movie) earned $104 million during its first weekend of worldwide release. http://www.mb.com.ph/arti...-continues

I started to read a few comments, but decided not to. My experience with this movie was foot swinging, wanted to get out of my chair feeling and dance... many times. I enjoyed the heads swaying to the music, all the way down the rows. I always sit in the upper last seats. My 17 year old nephew (who plays guitar) said it was awesome, and he is a hard film critic. for sure.
I would go see it again and I will definitely buy the DVD, times 10.

One thing that has been surprising to me is the turn out in terms of demographics. In one session I went to there were people in their 70s, families, couples in their 20s, teens and even one cute 5 year old girl dancing in front of her seat.
It took me back to the BAD tour and HiStory (the only tours that reached Australia) and it was the same thing - people of all ages connected with the music. With the movie though I think it bringing out more than just hardcore fans (sure they took up the first few opening nights) but it is a movie with a wider appeal.
