Official MJ "This Is It" thread

I know people are going to want to discuss the album and film so here you go. Hopefully this will keep the MJ sticky from going too crazy with these new releases. We'll sticky this up soon. Please keep the discussion of the movie and record here without starting duplicate threads. Thanks!

I can see why people were pissed with "this is it" song and album. (i.e "I never heard"). In Sony's defence, they obviously just found the DEMO with just Mikes vocals and Piano and thought "Wow, he mentions "this it it" in the lyric, what a perfect coincidence", despite the fact the song was called "I never heard" and released by Safire years beforehand, and Michael himself, presumely discarding the song over a decade previous.

I've had Safire's version for years and always felt the song was missing a decent chorus. Great verses and all, but no real great chorus to my ears. Also odd how the new version released this October has vocals by Mike which sound like "Dangerous" era to me and definately not "thriller" era, when the song was originally written.

The vocal is obviously a demo though. Mikes voice sounds great, but on the second verse for example, he skims over a few words etc....

Again, in Sony's defence, the album is merely a tie in to the movie. The album is supposedly sequenced in the way the actual concert was gonna be performed. if this is the case, then Mike's setlist was pretty ordinary, which to me personally, was and is dissapointing.

The song "this is it", is just a bonus I guess. A mistake not to release it as a single I feel, but I guess they want to milk the album, which I certainly won't be buying.

I thought about buying this album, but, since its leaked everywhere and im just creeped out and have an issue that this is not an album, this is rehearsels for a show, this wasnt supposed to be an album. This is a cash-in and i know thats what is done, but this is not someone that WAS doing a new album and died, this is not a "selena" type thing, MJ didnt die in the middle of recording a new album. So probably one day i will get it, but i cant get all anxious over something that creeps me the fuck out

I downloaded the EP to the official soundtrack from the Zune marketplace, which only has the six unreleased tracks, not the "greatest hits" side and overall the stuff sounds good. That 'Planet Earth' poem gave me chills. MJ had so many talents other than music, choreography, and film. This guy could write some great poetry and that poem is downright scary to me, just hearing it six months after his untimely passing.

I bought the tickets a few weeks ago. I'm going right after work with my sons to see it Friday night. I think I'm gonna have all kinds of emotions, good and bad, going through me while I'm watching the movie. This will be an experience, I can't wait to see it.

Elizabeth Taylor tweets praises of 'Michael's genius' in 'This Is it'

LOS ANGELES, California (CNN) -- It is an understatement to say that Elizabeth Taylor likes the new Michael Jackson movie "This Is it."

The legendary actress let loose with a flurry of 20 Twitter messages Monday afternoon, ending with her belief that, "This film should be nominated in every category conceivable."

Taylor, who doesn't get out much these days because of illness, said she screened the movie last week.

The 77-year-old actress occasionally posts short messages to the 175,000 people who follow her "Dame Elizabeth" Twitter account.

Here is an unabridged log of her tweets posted over a half-hour Monday:

"I was honored with the great privilege of seeing 'This Is It' last week. I was sworn to secrecy, but now I can let you know about it."

"It is the single most brilliant piece of filmmaking I have ever seen," Taylor tweeted. "It cements forever Michael's genius in every aspect of creativity."

"To say the man is a genius is an understatement. He cradles each note, coaxes the music to depths beyond reality."

"I wept from pure joy at his God given gift. There will never, ever be the likes of him again."

"And we have this piece of film to remind us forever and ever that once there was such a man. God kissed him."

"God blessed him and squandered nothing, but loved it all. Michael knew how to put together every tone, every nuance to make magic."

"To say he was a genius seems so little. I wish my vocabulary encompassed what I feel."

"You owe it to yourselves and your loved ones to see this again and again. Memorize it and say to yourselves, 'I saw genius in my lifetime.'"

"I loved genius in my lifetime. God was so good to me. I will love Michael forever and so will you, if you don't already."

"I hope I don't sound condescending. I'm sure you already know what I'm talking about, but go to see it again and again."

"If you listen to his lyrics they are those of a modern day prophet and it beseeches us to listen to him and what he sang."

"I won't use words like preaching because that is off-putting, but listen. Listen to his messages."

"From 'Black And White', 'Man In The Mirror'. The inspiration behind 'We Are The World'. We must take his words of responsibility seriously."

"Kenny Ortega did a masterful job of directing the process that goes into making a complete show before hitting the stage."

"From A to Z you get Michael's input on every level. Michael's genius at work with the dancers. Mr. Ortega catches Michael in his every mood."

"I truly believe this film should be nominated in every category conceivable."

Meanwhile, Sony Entertainment Pictures reacted to a tabloid report quoting Jackson's father questioning the authenticity of some of the movie's footage, with Sony calling the report "pure garbage."

London's News of the World tabloid published a short story Sunday that suggested members of the Jackson family were skeptical about whether the movie shows Jackson's true physical condition before his death.

"This movie features body doubles, no doubt about it," it quoted Joe Jackson saying. "I think people will tear this movie apart."

Joe Jackson's quote clashed with what one of his sons said over the weekend after seeing the film.

"My brother's movie 'This Is It' is truly riveting," Jackie Jackson said. "Michael is electrifying."

Sony issued this statement Monday:

"This story is pure garbage and there are no body doubles. Audiences will begin to see the film tomorrow and every time they see the King of Pop they will know that every frame is unquestionably and undeniably Michael as he rehearses and prepares for the London concerts that were to have begun this past summer."

The newspaper did not indicate when or where Joe Jackson made the statement.

The personal lawyer for the Jackson family had no comment. The public relations firm normally representing the Jackson family did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

The movie is based on about 80 hours of video shot in the three months before Michael Jackson's death on June 25. It captures Jackson's preparations for his London comeback concerts that had been set to begin in July.

To be fair though, Liz Taylor is batshit crazy.

No! Sony Germany issued a statement saying that the DVD/BluRay won't be out until at least february/march of next year... so if you wanna see it now, you should go to the cinema!

If that's the strategy for germany and europe, I guess it's the same for the US! Besides, there is a certain window, after a movie has been at the cinema in where it's kind off prohibited for them to release stuff on DVD!

It was talked about on MJJC. Sony Germany probably made a mistake because that rule no longer applys in the states. We'll most likely see it on DVD in the next 2 months at the earliest

mickyj007 stated that it'll be out on DVD and Blu Ray soon

Sony won't miss the opportunity to release this DVD by Christmas, and I bet it will be loaded with extras not seen in the theater. They're not stupid, and they want those Holiday dollars (and the knee-jerk spending that goes along with Holiday shopping). Plus, Sony would want to cash-in while emotions are still high surrounding Michael's death. This thing will be all over the Internet and in stores by December.

That's weird... Meaning you can only go and see one show a day or only showing once that night? In Holland it's literally showing every one and a half hours all day from 10 am to last show at night for 2 weeks. I wouldn't waste time with preordering on line. It's difficult coz shows are fully booked. Just go to the theatre and buy. At least that's what I did.

nod I certainly hope everyone that has bought tickets has a great time, but my feeling is that a lot of people who are excited about going to see this film in a theater are going to be sorely disappointed. I don't believe it's going to live up to the hype. I even have a morbid sense that subsequently some may go as far as to take their own life.

And while I realize everyone understands on an intellectual level that Michael has passed on, I don't think the reality of his death is really going to hit home until people realize that he doesn't make a "personal" appearance when they go to see this documentary. Because it seems to me ALMOST like people are expecting Michael himself is going to be there, or that by rushing in to see this movie it will bring him back for a time. Which is why I feel when those credits roll at the end of the show, hearts are going to be breaking left and right. Because at that point, everyone will realize... "THAT WAS IT!". And I think Sony is playing on people's emotions to yank those dollars out of as many pockets as they can.

I think it will certainly be a very interesting documentary, but I will be perfectly content to grab it off the Internet in just a few short weeks.
