I don't remember them having the same kind of impact say like a song like 'Music', 'Like A Prayer', 'Ray of Light' etc. Maybe you just can't remember clearly. Here in the states, "Take a Bow" was virtually inescapable when it was released. Radio, video... the song was everywhere. Well I'm not from USA. Its just not a song that I immediately think of when I think of Madonnas biggest hits. But I'm obviously not thinking about it in a literal way.

It's one of those Madonna albums that totally divides her fanbase Some love it,some hate it.I notice that many of her fans don't like her to work with "popular" producers.By working with Dallas Austin and Babyface (the two hottest R&B producers back then),they felt that she was "selling out" and "following trends" They tend to forget that,by and large, she has always been a POP artist (meaning, she does music that is popular with the mainstream).

I'm not big on Madonna. She's cool and all but meh. This would be my fave though. I really got into this one, I think moreso cuz of the producers on it than Madonna herself. Secret is pretty bomb-diggity and Take A Bow is as good at balladering as Madonna gets. Human Nature is Human Nature...kinda like Hip Hop Madonna style. it was pretty gritty for Madonna's standards/style. plus those boobs in the secret video....whoo...looked like she had a baby's butt stuffed in her shirt. Got my adolescent ass pretty randy every morning while I watched MTV and VH1 before I left for High School in the morning. isn't it funny how sexuality always leaves such a lasting impression. sex--->sexuality edit [Edited 10/27/09 5:45am]

Remember Mary J. Blige's debut album What's The 411?
It was the album Mary and producer Sean Combs use to introduce the genre known as "hip-hop soul". Basically, they used downtempo & mid-tempo hip-hop tracks for Mary to sing on it instead of rapping on it. Anyway, the success of What's The 411? gave Janet & Madonna the opportunity of having albums with that kind of vibe. In Janet's case, it was janet. In Madonna's case, it was Bedtime Stories.

Does anyone remember when Madonna won some award, and she was backstage talking about it,saying how much it means to her,etc....and then, out of the blue, she started kissing and licking (!) the award, and faking an orgasm I'm going crazy trying to find this footage.I think it was the Blond Ambition era??

I agree, what a crime! And I can't believe she ONLY performed 2 songs on tour from it! Not to mention that predictable as she can be sometimes, the next tour will have "Secret" performed... The Mary J Blige influence is well noted, I think it was said that Madonna worked with Dave Hall because of that album. Also, supposedly Madonna's most preferred song from Babyface's canon at the time was "Breathe Again" sung by Toni Braxton and of course "Take A Bow" has a similar feel.

I prefer not to relate the two - the comparison is abit embarassing i think. I mean, just because she chooses to work with black producers, we suddenly have to categorise them as being the same kind of record?!?! Hard Candy is closer to Confessions (and also has a 'Madonna' vibe to it), they're both club records, albeit different kinds of clubs. Bedtime Stories is the most mid-tempo album she ever recorded, and the most romantic also. Its the closest she's got to doing soul music, Hard Candy couldnt be further away from soul music if it tried. Madonna is not the kind of artist you'd associate with any kind of soul music, but i love the vibe she created on Bedtime Stories - and I wish she'd revisit that. She may not have a soulful voice, but she can emote brilliantly on record - she could do her own take on soul. Itd be a welcome change from her recent stuff. [Edited 10/28/09 5:37am]

lol...no,I think these albums are compared (by some fans) because of the style of music (urban/R&B) and the fact that both albums use "popular" producers in that genre.
Dallas Austin and Babyface were the top R&B producers of that era, while Timbaland and Pharell are considered the top R&B producers of this decade.

On a related note, does anyone know what happened with Dave Hall? I know he did Mary's album and Mariah's "Dreamlover" before he worked with Madonna, and then "Fantasy" but that's about it when it comes to his production credits... Whereas the other 3 producers kept working way into our current decade as well.
