Mary J. Blige's New Album, "Stronger"

October 23, 2009

The Queen of Hip-Hop Soul’s ninth studio album Stronger is now scheduled for release on December 15, we have learned. It was previously on the calendar for November 24.

'Stronger' is set to include “The One” with Drake and the title track’s ballad, which was a single off the More Than a Game soundtrack.

Among the album’s contributors are Rodney Jerkins, Ryan Leslie, Johnta Austin, Ester Dean, Stargate, T.I., and Trey Songz, who told Rap-Up.com that he has recorded a song called “Hood Love” with Blige.

I liked her first two albums, maybe even album three but her diva attitude and the repetitive song structures and lyrics just don´t do anything for me these days. I still love her first album though, even more than her second album.

Yeah i agree im pretty bored with her these days. She hasnt really done anything more than hip-hop R/B with SOME mere exceptions like "Fever" "Im Going Down" and "I Found My Everything". She hasnt branched out or reached for anything challenging.

I love how the labels are dumping everyone out at once, and yet they complain that things dont move and earlier in the year they feel people cant handle more than one new release at a time, but when its xmas time they think people will waste that money more, that thinking was good back in the older days, but since 2001 or so, that way of thinking is done.

Thats the ONLIEST thing that made me sit up straight so far(along with the Maze tribute song).

I love Mary,,,,but she needs to stop fuckin' around with these cutsy totsy flavor-of-the-month bullshit and bring me some of her grits eating material.

There was a time when Mary was unique and sincere,,,,,now ALL she does is ride the bandwagon till the wheel fall off disbelief even her fans are not pleased.

For real, it's sad as we GET older and think she's gonna do what she did in the BEGINNING of her career, she think hanging out with these wack ass nut jobs is gonna make us happy. lol I feel like an OG MARY J fan now because I REMEMBERED when she came out in 1992 all rough and shit. The "Breakthrough" and onwards-era Mary fans have NO IDEA, lol

Let's be honest...this album is not gonna be that much different than the last one,or the one that came before it.It's a shame that so many of today's artists don't challenge themselves and their listeners. They basically just make the same album over and over, using the same formula everytime.

if this album is like 'growing pains' i will be very disappointed. she needs to get back on that 'share my world' tip...or even 'the breakthrough'...not these happy almost-techno songs.

Mary only makes great music when she is depressed and sad. I guess this is the main reason why "My Life", was a huge success. While I am digging "Skycap", I might pass on this album.

artist really need to follow the kate bush/sade rule...if your sh*t sounds too similar, release an album every decade and not every year...this was the first year I didn't buy tracy chapman's latest either for the same reason.

Its harder for R&B singers though to resume a long hiatus and expect a faithful audience(The only person I could think of is Anita Baker and even her comeback album left alot of people cold, STILL it sold).

Which is another reason, ALOT of these R&B singers consider "going platinum & beyond" their main objective which is impossible for them to get into a hiatus.

That's a good point and a damn shame. LOL. Oh well, I guess I can't be that selfish...I've enjoyed four of her albums and a lot of songs. It's just like with Prince, you enjoy the good stretches and move on when it gets bad. LOL

She's had a nice long run, but since the 00's, she was just a singles artist, though in the 90's, definitely an albums one.

Also, Sade and Stevie Wonder. They can put 10 years in between their albums and are pretty much guaranteed at least a Gold status when they do drop something. Although, I haven't dug anything by either one of them since the early 90's.

As far as Mary J. is concerned, her single has been out for a couple 2 or 3 months now, hasn't it? I don't get why they are waiting so long to release the CD? I haven't really heard a lot of buzz about the single so maybe they were worried the CD wouldn't sell? Maybe they are trying to figure out a better promotional plan, which is what Mariah should have done.

That single is horrible. It probably didn't get the reaction they wanted,so they delayed her album while they went searching for better songs?

Not impressed with the single either. Getting tired of Drake slithering all over everybody's songs. I'm sick of MJB and all these dern duets on her albums too. Why don't she do something different and just have solely her voice on her songs for a change? She isn't tired of "going with the flow" of the industry yet??? I can't remember the last time I even bought a MJB album anyways.
I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

Im tired of hearing her long albums and only pulling 5 or less tracks off of it. The only ones I pulled from Growing pains was "Till The Morning" "Roses" "Just Fine" and "Smoke". The rest was ok but nothing different than what she did before. She just goin through the motions I guess. If I hear another song like We Ride or Grown Woman I'm going to scream...and from the looks of the producers that's what were going to get...leave that ish to Keyshia Cole.

Mary J. Blige’s ‘Stronger’ Pushed to Christmas Week
November 2009

Santa Claus is not the only one coming down the chimney this holiday season. Mary J. Blige will also be stuffing stockings with her new album, which has been pushed back one week, just in time for Christmas.

MJB’s ninth studio album Stronger will now arrive in stores on December 22, three days before Christmas. It was previously scheduled to go head-to-head with Alicia Keys, Chris Brown, Lil Wayne, and more on December 15.

Yeah... I don't give a toenail about her music anymore....
Just like R. kelly pavedthe way for all those R&B wannabe singers and now imitating them, Mary J Blige was the Queen of Hip Hop soul a few years ago, and those cutie R&B singers started imitating her, and some did quite well (Keyshia Cole) and some sucked (Ashanti), but waht pisses me off is that Mary is now trying to sound like those "newcomers"... The lady is around 40 yrs old now, why would she duet with Drake?? Use that autoyune shit? She aint got nothing to prove anymore... I've lost her since "Share MyWorld", and l guess this album wont make me a fan again, considering the guests and the "producers" involved...
