Yeah... I don't give a toenail about her music anymore....
Just like R. kelly pavedthe way for all those R&B wannabe singers and now imitating them, Mary J Blige was the Queen of Hip Hop soul a few years ago, and those cutie R&B singers started imitating her, and some did quite well (Keyshia Cole) and some sucked (Ashanti), but waht pisses me off is that Mary is now trying to sound like those "newcomers"... The lady is around 40 yrs old now, why would she duet with Drake?? Use that autoyune shit? She aint got nothing to prove anymore... I've lost her since "Share MyWorld", and l guess this album wont make me a fan again, considering the guests and the "producers" involved...

RIP Mary J Blige ... (1991-1997)

Because her fans not telling her.

Actually, her fans are about to lose their throats from shouting,,,,,considering that she checks her msg board constantly, alot of us voiced our concerns about the flavor-of-the-month/microwave popcorn shit phase she's dwelling on.

The problem is HERSELF and her yes-men who keepts telling how to stay "relevant" whateva the fuck that means. And her attitude is like "If they want the old miserable Mary, they can check the old albums" shrug lol

Thing is, she saw the clock on the wall when "The One" flopped and folks refused to buy into the cutisy-tutsy stuff she's messing with,,,which explains the album delay right now, she's probably back in the studio to record some grits eating shit(like the Precious song nod) and I'm guessing the outcome will be positive.

She's my girl and I'm forever rooting for her, but if this upcoming album is anything remotely near "Growing ASS Pains",,,,,then I'll keep my money, just like I kept my money then. And so do many others, I'm sure.

but why would she change the formula when that's what got her (finally!) a Grammy, when she should have gotten Grammies way back for What's The 411? and My Life...so she's kinda stuck in this rut now because this is what finaly got her the recognition she earned a decade earlier. Be Without You is the shit, though. But she should've pocketed a Grammy for Not Gon' Cry way, way earlier.

falloff

I forget other artists do have message boards.

She should have just stayed working with Raphael, she can really benefit doing some real grown folk sounding music....I mean its nice to be commercial, but after a while it gets tepid and dull *cough cough MARIAH*. Havent they learned by now?

Her last couple of albums definitely fell off my radar fast. Would be great to see her branch out with some different kinds of collaborators.

I'd actually love to hear her do a really well produced covers album.

I love Mary,,,,but she needs to stop fuckin' around with these cutsy totsy flavor-of-the-month bullshit and bring me some of her grits eating material.

There was a time when Mary was unique and sincere,,,,,now ALL she does is ride the bandwagon till the wheel fall off disbelief even her fans are not pleased.

For real, it's sad as we GET older and think she's gonna do what she did in the BEGINNING of her career, she think hanging out with these wack ass nut jobs is gonna make us happy. lol I feel like an OG MARY J fan now because I REMEMBERED when she came out in 1992 all rough and shit. The "Breakthrough" and onwards-era Mary fans have NO IDEA, lol

Hey, you get a lil' older, less hunger, your are more comfortable, and established it's hard to keep that edge. I have two cd's by Blige never felt the need to purchase anything else.

Thing is, that was HER comfort zone to begin with,,,,,with the microwave popcorn she be layin' on us these days though,, she sounds like she's trying TOO damn hard to compete with these young girls and reality is, she doesn't even have to shrug

Chaka didn't have to compete with her disciples when they came up(Meli'sa Morgan, Angela Winbush, Vesta and the likes) and so did Aretha,,,,,I'm not making comparision here, what I'm trying to establish is MJB already put her stamp on the music industry, she already passed the point where she needs to prove herself,,,,,but for some reason, she pulls these snap-n-pop candy material that every girl who recently got her 1st period(excuse my French) have been doing.

nod It's not that we want her to be depressed to make a great album but she sure can still throw down on the emotional soulful joints. It's where her heart shines really.

Yep and that's a pretty ignorant comment to say you have to be miserable to have a great album, lol. When people are in that zone, great shit emerges. Mary's "Mary" album proved that and she was in high spirits THEN lol.

Oh, no... I was speaking in terms of the work itself, the process of building, sustaining, and having a career in music. Hey, we all have stuff to deal with, such is life. She's made the climb I think you can get, a lil' bit mellow.

I must admit I haven't followed her career as close as of late. If Harle's right and she looking at the charts and trying to compete, I would think that's a mistake. But I do understand the pressure to do so. More and more it appears you the suits, press, and radio give you a decade or so and then throw to the side like an ice cream cone and start licking on a different flavor.

I love me some Mary and I wish she would follow through with the musical experimentation that's found within it. A friend of mine, who wasn't into Mary and was more into alternative rock fell in love with that album and pointed how artistically she was merging genre's similiar to what Bjork does. By the next album all of her artistic ambitions kind of went away.

Yeah its abotu to be 2010 R&B needs something fresh and new to the table...they still stuck doing 90's cut and paste albums...maybe 3 uptempo (now and days its mid tempo) songs and the rest being slow syrupy cheating or relationship ballads..I heard all I can hear and bare when it come to r&b divas; I'm done and ready for someone to change the game up a bit...I'm going to be like Sunshine Anderson...

Aw damn mushy thats my bitch right there,,,,I loved the song, album, the whole shebang.

But I SO feel you on recent RnB; if it ain't "I'm sorry", its "I love", if it ain't "a song for the haters", then its a "song for the lord" and if it ain't a "sex me" ballad", then its a "you done me wrong" ballad blahblah

They truly put the "one dimensional" factor into a WHOLE another level.

That sounds ignorant.

Just say you like the bluesy, nitty gritty version of Mary J. She can still get down even when she's sober lol

That's like saying you like Marvin Gaye because he was coked up when he made those brilliant records. I don't associate great music with drugs.
