Superior.

Also, do the homework on the song and you might find you're on the right track, but going the wrong way. smile

jeez.....can't post anything around here without some prince expert giving you a clue about where to find the real answer

prince just did an interview and said he listened to Robert Palmer right? and he said that you can hear the influence in a song like U Got The Look

so i searched for a song that i think may have inspired him

of course it was just an opinion

why don't y'all enlighten me because your clue to 'do the research' on the song is vague

Because knowing is half the battle, but learning is the other half! smile

In short, this song is from Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis. So for him to say this song was inspired by the Robert Palmer version hints that it may have been a jab as his ol' boys from Flyte Tyme. biggrin

You mean "Funky Music" from New Power Soul. I find it to be more similar.

Isn't that a bit of a stretch? I don't even know if this was the song he was talking about and Palmer worked with more than just Jam/Lewis. Oh well.

NONSENSE

Prince is cool. His inspiration doesn't mean "U Got The Look" sounds anywhere near anything Palmer has done.

It has been implied in several publications featuring Per Nilsen's research that U Got The Look was rearranged to resemble the Robert Palmer smash Addicted to Love.

No, Prince did not say what Robert Palmer song inspired him. I was thinking he
liked "Addicted To Love" and "U Got The Look" was his attempt to do something pop/rock like Robert Palmer.

I Did't Mean To Turn You Horn in the original Cherrell version sounds like Jimmy and Terry just doing the Minn Sound.

Just? You make that sound like it's no big deal. That's a sound they helped create. Early Flyte Tyme is great stuff.

Back on topic... I would agree that Addicted to Love is close to the sound that U Got The Look was cribbing (bettering, in my opinion).

Addicted To Love sort of drags, where as U Got The Look drives.

I can't recall where I read it,but I heard that Prince loves the song "Addicted To Love".He and Cat danced to it at a nightclub in 1986,it was their first time dancing together.Soon after,he asked her to join his band.

saw Robert Palmer live once and got front row seats

my friend and I were dancing the entire night, but everyone behind us was sitting down

he kinda attracted more of an older crowd, but i guess he wasn't exactly young either

but he was incredible in concert esp. his Power Station stuff he did with Bernie Edwards in tow http://www.youtube.com/wa...Uc629OcQPo

I prefer the Cherelle version.
Jimmy and Terry lose their minds slightly on the 12", I'm sure.
And for that I am thankful!
