You made it seem like she was going to college. Artists don't get "transferred". When they're free agent record labels make a run for the artist kind of like an auction. The artist being the prize. Believe it or not, that does happen. It happens when some artists are under the same umbrella and also if a certain label wants to establish a certain department. For instance, a few years ago, Fabolous and Musiq were part of a trade off between Atlantic Records and IDJ/Universal. They did this because Atlantic wanted to build their Urban department and their contracts were sold to Atlantic by IDJ. I've forgotten who were the other artists that were apart of that deal. Also, it could be that Universal wanted to move J over to her old label since A&M didn't have an urban presence anymore. A&M hasn't had a big Urban division in a while and I remember reading that they wanted to improve that.. **--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••-

There's other artists who ended up going back to their other labels after leaving labels that were under the same group.  That's true, but you never know what their intention was. Maybe they were transferred to help build a department. It happened with WB in the 90s. If you remember, WB had a huge umbrella of Urban artists, but those that didn't perform to a certain standard, they moved them to Reprise.
