Janet Jackson recording 'up-tempo dance album'; can she recapture a rhythm nation? by Leah Greenblatt Categories: MTV reports today that Janet Jackson’s upcoming 11th studio album, a follow-up to 2008’s Discipline, is focused on uptempo and mid-tempo dance tracks, with a sound “inspired by worldwide influences,” including Brazilian, African and Latin rhythms. According to producer Rodney Jerkins (Britney Spears, Destiny’s Child, Pussycat Dolls), she’ll also be addressing recent personal events: “You gotta understand, she lost her brother,” he told MTV. “She was in a relationship for seven years that’s over now. There’s things that she told me that I didn’t even realize. You know, certain [things] like self-esteem … I kinda had to persuade her, ‘Let’s just go, let’s talk about that.’ And she’s been doing it, and she’s a pro about it.” I love me some Janet; I really do. And she’s had what anyone would deem an insanely difficult year. But after the disappointment of Discipline, I’m wondering whether I should just stick with her upcoming greatest-hits collection, Number Ones, due November 17. Honestly, she still had me hanging on to 1997’s The Velvet Rope (I can take a Joni Mitchell mash-up!), but sort of lost me for good in ‘04 with Damita Jo’s relentlessly same-y sex-me jams. Where is the Janet who took us on an Escapade? That fierce Black Cat in Control who taught us all about the Pleasure Principle? (Requires knee-pads and an empty warehouse, fyi.) And where the Minneapolis are Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis? If only you would Come Back to Me, Janet! But tell me if I’m wrong, readers. Will love still never do without her? http://music-mix.ew.com/2...nce-album/ Has Janet's music gotten THAT bad???

None of that whispering, and her performances need to be BEAT! None of that half ass performing shxt (see Flopwitchu/Fuckwitchu tour) I wanna see that fire in her eyes (see 2009 MTV VMA performance). So no, time isn't running out for Janet. People keep saying that she's going to flop blah, blah, blah but her fans really don't care if she sells only 1k or whatever because she's doing this for her fans. Her career isn't based off numbers like Mariah and she never half-asses her performances so I don't know whatchu talkin bout CH!!! I'm a little irked that dance remix versions of "All Nite (Don't Stop)" and "Feedback" are being used. I guess they want to stay loyal to the whole "#1's" concept and include the remixes since they topped the dance charts, but I think they should have stuck with the album versions since they're perfectly danceable! Oh well, just another reason for new fans to purchase the "Damita Jo" and "Discipline" CD's I guess. Disc One: 1. What Have You Done For Me Lately (DOAD US Edit) 4:44 2. Nasty (DOAD International Edit) 3:44 3. When I Think Of You 3:55 4. Control (DOAD US Edit) 5:15 5. Let's Wait Awhile (Remix Version) 4:30 6. The Pleasure Principle (DOAD US Edit) 4:13 7. The video uses an edit of the Dance Remix. It's under 5 minutes: I was speaking of released versions. That edit was unique and exclusive for the video but was never released anywhere, which wasn't/isn't uncommon. The official mixes in '86 were: LP Version (3:57)* Dance Remix (6:30)* Instrumental (3:59)* Extra Beats (2:01)* Dub/A Cappella / Dub Version (3:25) * = released on CD Frustratingly enough, the Instrumental was actually an instrumental edit of the Dance Remix, not the LP Version. But, they never released an edited version of the Dance Remix itself. Don't ask me why My personal preference is for hits collections to feature the version of the song that was the hit - in this case, the LP Version, which received the most airplay then and receives the most recurrent airplay now. Why do you think I want it on this album? Really, they would need to issue the video edits for all her singles. I believe the only actual Video Mix (i.e. one that was done explicitly for the video) that received a release was All For You.

Janet on the Mexican border eating burritos will shit on ALL your favs and that's REAL TALK!! Plus, she's doing good for an artist that came out in the 80's [Edited 10/24/09 16:42pm] LMFAO! You know that's the truth right there! Can't none of these phishes out here hold a candle to miss Jackson! I just want her to "Make Me" tear some furniture up when one of her new songs come on...I want this bitch to make me wake up and slap the first person I see when her music comes on... CH!! Trust! Be prepared Janet + African rhythms to Brazilian and Latin music = These gwerls can't take!!
