Thanks, daPrettyman. I never knew that Dionne sang the original version of this song. Yep. Luther did her entire "How Many Times Can We Say Goodbye" album. Very good album. I just posted my favorite track on there in another thread. "What Can A Miracle Do" is perfection. **--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••-

This is in my top 5 favorite Luther songs. Luv it. I've lost the use of my heart, But I'm still alive, Still looking for the life, The endless pool on the other side, It's a wild wild west, I'm doing my best, I'm a soldier of love, Every day and night, I'm soldier of love, All the days of my life.

There is not one bad track on "The Night I Fell In Love" (with Wait For Love). I love that album. "Give Me The Reason" (with So Amazing) is good also, but I'm not a fan of the title track or "Stop To Love". **--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••-

Every time I hear it, I can picture a bunch of people doing aerobics to it, or something. RIP, mom. I will forever miss and love you.

I like "Stop To Love" but I can se why many people wouldn't like it...lol...it's more pop-sounding than his other songs from that period.

I cringe every time I hear Stop To Love or Give Me The Reason. Luther was trying too hard to reach the pop audience. **--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••-

I like the dedication version done by Stevie and Beyonce.
And I love Luther's voice on Part-Time Lover: And I love when they did "That's What Friends Are For" live.. Those three (Luther, Dionne & Stevie) have done a lot of stuff with/for each other. Such a shame Luther left so early, I thought "Dance With My Father" was an absolutely incredible album. At least he got to see the success he had with it. [Edited 10/7/09 1:43am]

I cringe every time I hear Stop To Love or Give Me The Reason.Luther was trying too hard to reach the pop audience. I admit, those two songs are really 'pop'.Especially "Give Me The Reason".I still like it,but it's missing the soul of his earlier singles. The 80s was a weird time for many R&B artists. Thanks to 'Thriller' and 'Purple Rain',they were under alot of record company pressure to "crossover" and reach the widest audience possible. To his credit,Luther didn't go overboard in his pursuit of a pop audience. His subsequent albums returned him to an R&B setting.

I never thought "Give Me The Reason" and "Stop To Love" was missing the soul,'cause no matter what sound he was singin to you always knew it was Luther. Same way when Stevie did "Part Time Lover" which could be a cousin to Hall & Oates' "Maneater", but the key to it was that you still knew it was Stevie being Stevie with a lil help from Luther. lol

My issue with the mentioned songs from Luther is that they were blatant attempts to cross over to the pop charts. They worked...somewhat, but they still didn't manage to make him the pop star he wanted to be at that time. I had no problem with Luther wanting to cross over, my problem was that the songs were not great pop songs. When Luther finally broke through to the pop charts with "Here and Now", it was the perfect blend of pop and r&b that he had been searching for all of those years. To me, "Here and Now" was almost like an updated "So Amazing". They used the same formula. **--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••-
