That cover is OK. Would have looked better with her eyes open though, looking directly at the lens. "You put water into a cup, it becomes the cup...Now water can flow or it can crash. Be water, my friend." - Bruce Lee

I was wondering how they would use Jay-Z's hit to promote her new disc.

Alicia Keys and Rihanna were both in the U.K. on Sunday (Nov. 29) where they performed on “The X Factor.” Alicia sang “Empire State of Mind” and “Doesn’t Mean Anything,” while Rihanna did “Russian Roulette.”

A strong album, with plenty of solid material. "This Bed" sounds a lot like something Prince could have written in the eighties, drum programming and all. Very cool!! The album is nicely balanced between slow jams and uptempo songs. I don't really get the Beyonce collaboration though.. Aka Mister T at moquake.com

^^ "this bed" sounds pretty good.
i hear the whole album leaked today. i don't really have any expectations for this album. i love "try sleeping with a broken heart", but "doesn't mean anything" is so boring! the collabo with beyonce is just okay; i don't like their voices together. How can I stand 2 stay where I am? / Poor butterfly who don't understand.

This Bed is not bad but it feels like it needs something to happen like some great adlibs or a fierce guitar solo. Been gone for a minute, now I'm back with the jump off

I think this album may be a little better than As I Am but I keep returning to this feeling that there's something missing through many of the songs. Something climatic, unforeseeable and soulful...a great piece of instrumentation or solo appearance. I have to study it more but off the top of my head there are a few tracks that remind me of some other song... This Bed - Last Night, That's How Strong My Love Is - Tender Love and a few others. She's not singing loudly on several tracks and that's always a good thing. [Edited 12/4/09 17:18pm] Been gone for a minute, now I'm back with the jump off

banks said: The coveted collaboration between industry heavyweights Alicia Keys and Beyonce from Alicia’s forthcoming album finally surfaces in the form of “Put It In A Love Song.”
It seems that 2009 and 2010 has been and is going to continue to be the year of collaboration between big artists. The new track, which suits both of the artists very well comes from Alicia’s latest project, The Element of Freedom, which is due to hit stores December 15th via J. Records. http://concreteloop.com/

This sounds like an album worth spending some money on! I agree, it does sound like it's gonna be better than As I Am, which is good. I hope I won't grow tired of it like of the former.

Justfortheloveofit said: A strong album, with plenty of solid material. Really? This album actually tops "As I Am" instead of boredom. There are no highpoints and no standouts and there are at least 2 songs that began DOA, ended DOA, and I literally could tell you nothing about them. The precious few songs that might have been able to go somewhere didn't because of their construction (something Alicia loves to do) or were ruined so much by her voice that I wish someone else was singing them. The only song that did anything for me was "That's How Strong My Love Is", which is nice. "How It Feels To Fly" is similar in mood and was alright as well. She opens both of them up at the end emotionally, which is something she seems to hate doing. "Try Sleeping..." is growing on me but just it's another song that she didn't flesh out 100%. I would have to say that "As I Am" is a more interesting listen, even with it's flaws, and nothing on this album is seeing "Lesson Learned," which was the only song that felt genuinely soulful. This album is basically a continuation of the neutered soul that brought down the last album. Justfortheloveofit said: The album is nicely balanced between slow jams and uptempo songs.
12 out of the 15 songs have the same mid-tempo pace. Are you sure that you're listening to the same album I am? Justfortheloveofit said: I don't really get the Beyonce collaboration though... I don't either. It's embarrassing.

The songs do have the same pace and production. I'm listening right now I'm on track Like The Sea...
So far, try sleeping is the stand out track and one other which atm i can't remember I'll update when i've finished listening

Man, I just can't get over how bad and irritating "Put It In A Love Song" is.. It has got to be put on the album as an experiment, just to prove that even garbage can be a hit if you got the right promotion and have two of the biggest names in music performing it...
Or it is just on the album as a joke.. Aka Mister T at moquake.com
