I love Alicia but I think her music is repetitive. One album sounds like a complete out-take session of the next album. They're all the same. "Diary of Alicia Keys" is my shit tho!

I think its the other way around, the first album was shit, it was so calculated and the whole ghetto girl image was so MADE UP. The change that everyone is talking about is very simple, NOT re-doing vocals and layering them, that simple peeps, if you layer them and do one line a day then rest and then do a hook and then go on vacation and then come back and do the chorus your voice will be sound the same all the way through, and then when you are live REALITY sets in. To me, i want a vocalist that doesnt sound like they taped the shit together over a year and its so slick its like an oil spill in alaska, if i want that i'll listen to beyonce or mc 24/7, or some rb cat out now.

Her WHOLE career is made-up, look at who her boss is? History repeating itself much?

I won't talk about the image because its pointless, but as far as her music goes, there's absloutly NOTHING sincere about this woman's voice or music. I liked the song she did with Mos Def in the video(You Don't Know My Name) but everytime I hear her voice straining, the pressure somehow makes me think to myself that "She must've been singing in the john".

I hate the fact that she(along with her people) hype her albums before it get release with ALOT of verbose, self-praising bullshit and make a big deal about her piano playing ONLY to fog how exactly similar the album is to the rest of "R&B flavor of the month" album shrug

If she made an album full of songs like "Empire State" and the James Bond song, people will drop the "Alicia=Boring" talk.

What is this fascination with the "empire" song? What the hell am i missing, its a corny rap song where Jay Z is losing his breath 7 or 8 times in the rapping, no one mentions that "off key" note. Its such a forced painting by numbers corny duet with predictable corny lyrics it amazes me that people talk about her being sincere? what is so sincere about empire state? Because they are from NYC? so am i, nothing sincere are special about that rap or her delivery, i think alicia is on the track because beyonce or rihanna were out of town, they could have gotten anyone for this, nothing special.

True!

But I'm telling it how I see it(or how I hear it, in this case) its still the most intersting thing she did(along with the James Bond theme), and these are decent songs at best,,,,thats how BORING the lady is.

that track is without a doubt the most interesting things he's done so far along with the song Heartburn from her 2nd album. everything else she has done sounds exactly the same. where is the growth and risk taking? nowhere!

"Interesting" - Yes
"Tolerable to my ear drums" - No. My friends and I were in the theater for "Quantum Of Solace" and were horrified at the racket (Ironically the movie was just as bad).

Okay. I get now what you were trying to say on that other thread. As far as the vocal and instrumental performances go, I agree there.

"As I Am" for me personally is really the only Keys album that I have cared about so far. The new single doesn't sound that promising, but it could just as well mean that there isn't too much overtly commerceial material on it anwyay. Or that the record company just chose it because it has the most familiar Alicia Keys sound to it. We'll see.

I, personally don't like her (Alicia Keys') voice, but I will say that her piano playing is to be marvelled at for someone so young. Vocally, I'll pass. She's no powerhouse, nor is she any better (I reiterate, vocally) than what's on the current roster of female vocalists that are simply sub par (i.e. Keisha Cole, Ciara, Rhianna, etc...) Gone (aside from Beyonce, Jennifer Hudson, Fantasia, Ledisi and a few others) are the Soul Sistas who erupt into vibratto so powerfully and effortlessly that the very sound of their voice tells you that they are fully involved in the message which they convey.

It is one thing to have a big voice, it is another thing to know how to use it. the singers that you have mentioned have this tendency to over sing allot of the songs that they sing. I don't need to be "taken to church", all of the time. Alicia, might not have the chops of those mentioned,(she never claimed to have them), but at least she plays an instrument unlike the other and is able to write and read music, unlike some of the others. It is amazing to me when someone like her comes along, people try to pick them apart. I myself, like the influence that she has had on my nieces and some of my nephews. They see someone who not only knows a different style of music, than they are used to. They are also seeing someone who is able to read music as well. It makes them want to do that too. I like that.

I like her second album best.Definitely her best work. I pass on the
whole first album besides Fallin and A woman's worth.
Her third album wasn't anything special either.
I liked the song Unbreakable but she lost a little
credibility with me on that once i found out she
raped Eddie Kendrick's Intimate Friends.

I've always considered Alicia Keys to be highly overated. She is a very nice looking girl But musically she is no more talented that Idia Arie or Tweet both of whom I belive are superior vocalist when compared to Keys.

Alicia Keys looks has taken her further than her music would have.Just like I feel Halle Berry (whom I do like) her looks have taken her further than just her acting. We all know a lot of other black actresses who are better.

There both Sex Symbols kill them rolleyes. There are plenty of White female Sex symbols, that shouldn't even be in Hollywerid but they make room. Why do we always have to compare Black Females Artist and Black actresses. There enough room for everybody.

If she has talent, then it is not "all hype". The people who are saying these things are not ur "average Joe". They are masters at their crafts and considered legends in the industry. I think their words do stand for something.

Well thats what im saying, people can say she is boring this and that, but if you can honestly say she has no talent, on a forum where the likes of Vanity are praised, then i think you seriously need some help, but thats my opinion. Alicia has talent and so do many others, some more some less, and we can argue all day who deserves the spotlight and never come to an agreement. But as for getting props from Prince,Stevie and others, how is that NOT supposed to influence your way of thinking? Alicia is getting respect from the top of the gamers, the all timers, and she just happens to get the spotlight too, well that is a good thing, at least there's talent there whether u like it or not, and she isnt shitting on the past, like others who just sample it for gain.

Vanity is ONLY praised for her past beauty and her once nice body and that is ALL! Prince helped soften the blow for Denise Matthews. Alicia has put out some great music but here lately it has been slipping a bit. I do believe she can make a comeback though...

Alicia Keys is promoting that I'm a little angel bullshit and I think people are getting tired of that. She oughta give us something different because she is becoming predictable. bored

Just got an e-mail from her web site saying:

To kick off Alicia's new album, The Element of Freedom, slated for a December 1st release, Alicia will be performing at NYU's Skirball Theatre this Wednesday @ 7pm.

Then it asks for your e-mail and name of a guest. It says winners will be picked randomly and e-mailed tomorrow. Damn I wish I lived in NY. No I don't, but I do wish this was happening on the west coast.
