Radio in Europe

We don't have much of a choice here in The USA. Outside of ROck,Pop,R&B,and Hip Hop there isn't much to choose from. Luckily in The UK you have all sorts of music. I've been listening to Radio on and Xtra. They play all the forementioned styles but they also play Techno,D&B,House,Grime, Dub,2Step,Garage,Electro,and Reggae.

We've been longing for dance stations jere in The USA. Outside of the most major markets(New York,Chicago, San Fransisco,Boston) The US doesn't have any. Even LA has to listen to HD Radio to hear any Dance. Dance is something that is usually played lightly once every hour or 2. Radio one plaus about as much Dance per hour as they do Pop. Then there's Kiss 100. London used to have a Dance station, what happened to it? Strange one of the largest cities in The World hub for global Dance Culture and one of the most renound club scenes in the world has no Dance stations and cities in America do.

As I mention Dance is played lightly but on Pop Radio. Hip Hop-R&B/Urban station hardly everr play Dance here. The few Dance tunes I can remember on black radio are Technotronic,CeCe Penniston,Crystal Waters,C&C Music Factory and Crystal Waters. I was suprised when they played Robin S. Hip Hop is pretty much theyoung urban music of AMerica here. We have atleast one station in every stations that play Hip Hop with young R&B and some with Hip Hop alone. Then you've got your older R&B station where Rap's not allowed. So I want to know is it a reverse from Hip Hop to Dance in Europe. I know they have alot of Dance stations in Europe and Asia. But as for The Hip Hop market how do they hear it
if they play it at all? I mean I know England plays Hip Hop-R&B alot but you've got ot realize they've got a reasonable black population. Tiny compared to New York but when yu look at Germany,France,Sweden,Italy, and even Russia blacks a hard to come by. Infact most ehtnicities in Europe don't exist outside of London.

SO I know Germany is a big listener to Hip Hop and very big into Techno and Dance. But which has the station there? I mean Germany listens so big they have their own Hip Hop groups. I watched Viva on The Internet and saw lots of german(white) Hip hop artists, something you'd hardly ever see in The USA. SO if there were Hip Hop stations there they'd have to share it with European and German artists, something unheard of here. Also you have to remember Technoand House are part Hip Hop-R&B. So those 2 areas of music end up sounding like one another since they are merged somewhat into the other. Dance music videos are almost never played in The USA.

But that is something that is beginning to happen. Although LAddy GaGa and Kid Kudi are getting play on Mtv I meant Hip Hop-R&B are beingiing to merge with Dance culture. SInce all the ELectronic sounds even German Elektro and Industrial use the same sounds as Hip Hop They've always been merged. But 80s Hip Hop got away from Electronic music quite some, btu now it's coming back. One of the biggest Hip Hop groups right now LMFAO is a heavily Electronic based act.

I barely listen to the radio, I mean hardly ever. If I do I listen via the tv digital stations. There are 115 stations. 80 percent are worthless. Just checked through them. One hip hop channel, one bas, breaks and & beat, one R&B, classic R&B soul. On the ultimate urban channel, tuning in I hear Black eyed peas & Jai Ho from Slum dog millionaire.

We of course also have hits from Italy, France & Spanish stuff. Germany is more about Techno & the hard as hell channel. London and Amsterdam, house, dance, hits, lounge, cool jazz, groove (disco and funk), chillout. It's more dance oriented here that's for sure. Though Wild, Slam and Q radio also harder house.

I don't listen to hip hop or R&B or at least, what I classify as....
I used to listen to MOS online radio for dance music. (Ministry of Sound)

Don't think it really answers your questions which I'm not quite sure of but I do pity you there in the States with your choice of channels. I would just die there cool

Yes it's a mystery how we survive. SAn Fransisco lost it's dance station? Big Gay San Fransisco doesn't have it's Dance station now? WHat it a corperate decision or lack of listnership?

That's a bummer, indeed sad. I mean dance stations are needed when you have to jack your mind and body up for something, or prepare for a party.
I don't like all dance music but at least it flows more compared to R&B, Hip-hop or rap. If you really dance for a long time you can release your own serotin and literally put yourself into a trance. Dance music is healthy I think, good therapy for certain times.

Open up iTunes, and click on Radio on the left. There's US, UK, and other international stations to appease your music needs.

FWIW, the iPod liberated me from the clutches of radio 8 years ago. I don't miss it one bit.

I agree. Between the advent of larger hard drives, iTunes (or any player that can handle a lot of music), the iPod, etc...and with over 20,000 songs in my library....I have little to no use for a radio. My friend got a Nissan Cube with 3 months of free XM radio. Pretty cool. Few to no commercials, and a seemless transition between the iPod and XM. I still have my old 40gig 3rd generation iPod that works in his car (it has an iPod jack in it). I load it up and we never hear the same thing twice.

Well one of the main purposes of radio is to advertise unknown artists. Without it you wouldn't know them to put in your Ipod.
