I agree, of the nominees presented ABBA, Donna Summer, Genesis, Kiss and The Stooges should be inducted. They are definitely the most deserving.

I think The Hollies should be inducted eventually, but there are others I would put ahead of them. Jimmy Cliff, Laura Nyro, LL Cool J and the RHCP... arguments can definitely be made for each of them and I don't think any of them is undeserving, but again I think there are others that should be in before them that weren't nominated.

Like the Beastie Boys (and the Stooges before them), the Hollies are in a rough spot. confused I want them to be inducted too but they probably won't this year. confused

Won't next year be Phil Collins' 40th anniversary since he first got with Genesis?

Yup, he joined them in 1970. His first album w/ the group was Nursery Cryme.

Rock n Roll is the term for Modern Popular Music with many subgenres, pop, dance, disco, rnb, rap, metal, rock, classic rock so on and so forth.

Red Hots? Are you kidding me?
Donna Summer-as much as I love her, no and I am not anti disco in anyway. I have no issue with Abba.
But the biggest travesty is KISS. What in the hell? Where is their musicianship, what classic songs have they done that you still here on the radio and classic rock stations-I used to listen to classic rock stations all the time and I NEVER heard a Kiss song.

it's a toss up between Kiss and the Chantelles. KISS is more for the cultural impact.

They all deserve to be in... Donna Summer especially. Now where's CHIC????

The Stooges seem like a sure bet. The RHCP will be in.I think Flea inducting Lars and co. sealed his deal...(don't get me wrong..I love Hillel-Frusciante units).

And I'm sure my brutha blackguitaritz will agree...KISS deserves to be in there.
When acts that used to open for you are being inducted and you're not, then there's something wrong. I just hope Gene keeps his big, fat mouth shut until they hand him the award.

Cheap Trick, Alice Cooper, Deep Purple, Thin Lizzy and others need to be in there too.

What cultural impact did Kiss have other than inspiring countless hair bands and shagging groupies?
Chic should get in over Donna

KISS was a band that you either loved or hated. They influenced a lot of rock bands (good and bad) through out the 80's and 90's. They've also sold the most gold and platinum records behind the Beatles.

Despite what I think of them today, they were huge back then. I was amazed to see them even get a nod from the RRHOF. But at the same time, it doesn't mean that they'll even get in there.

It would be funny to see them do like Sabbath and The Pistols and say "no thanks". Gene and Paul told me a few years ago that "it didn't matter" but I'm sure deep down they want in.

Kiss should have been in almost a decade ago, whether you like them, hate them, think they are a joke etc...They influenced alot of artists that are around today, they are still relevant in terms of pop culture, they pretty much "owned" a time period, they were the pioneers of "selling" yourself and keeping it for yourself, artists who get ripped off should FOLLOW THEM.

Genesis should also have been in long ago, but i feel with them almost a lock to get in, you have to start kicking up the dust on getting Chicago in, sorry, but this is the all time fuck up on their part. I cant even talk about Laura Nyro and Darlene Love, the Hollies or Jimmy Cliff getting in, or feeling bad if they dont, while CHICAGO who had the greatest rock guitarist in Terry Kath, isnt in.

her impact didn't happen until Control. if it wasn't for that she would have been just another Jackson sibling. we've gone over that before.

Who cares LOL. Is this really a big deal in the US? Sorry to rain on anyone's parade, but its just an empty awards show right?

Actually it's not just an awards show. The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame is part of the pop culture my country. It exists to recognize the long standing contributions of pioneers who have been apart of the musical fabric of America for 25 years or more.

Originally the ceremony was never televised and was a private affair, but media conglomerates being the way they are....

Anyhooo, the Hall is in Cleveland, Ohio, the locale offically designated as America's birthplace of Rock & Roll due to its' influence in coining the phrase "rock&roll" and the importance of musicians being able to break into its' radio market in the early 1950's. Additionally, in the late 50's and through the 60's Cleveland housed some pretty legendary venues crucial to breaking acts, most notably The Agora. On through the 70's The Agora was infamous for being a stop on major music tours, and for breaking out artists to national recognition. During these decades it played home and host to everyone from Patti Smith to Bruce Springsteen to Simon &Garfunkel to David Bowie. I guess while I could agree with you that the awards broadcast itself is not so important, the actual inductees into the Hall of Fame are meant to represent the sort of pioneering spirit reflective of rock's evolution in those early years.

That's not entirely true. She had a few big hits in the 80s.Her career lasted longer than most disco artists.

Is this a criteria for induction, anyway? There are many artists in the Hall of Fame who didn't have longevity (Percy Sledge, for example).

well longevity and influence is suppose to be part of the criteria but like you pointed out there are artists in the hall with 1 or 2 big hits in their entire careers. i guess they pick and choose what the criteria is gonna be for each artist.i still disagree with donna summer, if she deserve to go in so do whitney houston

Here's a few reasons why Donna deserves to be inducted...

She was the "queen" of an entire genre of music: disco. She was arguably the top female artist of the late 70s.She was to the 70s what Madonna was to the 80s.In fact,Madonna herself was heavily influenced by Donna. One of Donna's songs,"Last Dance",even won an Oscar. Her success was such that she was allowed to record four 2-record sets, back to back! Three of those albums went straight to Number One: 'Live And More' (1978),'Bad Girls' (1979) and 'On The Radio' (1979).

Her influential 1977 hit "I Feel Love" basically started the whole electronica/techno movement."Hot Stuff" was one of the best examples of rock mixed with disco. Her 'Bad Girls' album influenced much of what we heard in the 80s."Love To Love You Baby" is another groundbreaking song that paved the way for the much of what we heard later from Madonna,Janet,Beyonce and others. She recorded the only listenable version of "MacArthur Park".In 1980,she actually won a Grammy for best rock performance for "Hot Stuff".It is unusual for a black woman to even be nominated in this category, much less winning it!
