Freddie Mercury-One of the greatest singers of all time? Yay or Nay

I think his voice is amazing. I have read that he could sing from the tenor to the colartura (sp) range. Your thoughts?

YAY. A great singer, songwriter, rock artist and gay icon, one of the most talented front men ever and such great songs, even my 68 year old partner thinks he was amazing.

Elvis was a much better singer. Even Freddie himself thinks so.

In an interview Freddie said Elvis is the greatest singer and he was his idol!

Elvis was just in the right place, at the right time.

Freddie was amazing. Truly a one of a kind. I can't think of many other voices in the pop rock category I'd rather listen to.

As a side note, I think Queen releasing high quality vintage concert footage from the archives is fantastic. It's great stuff for Queen fans.

Releasing new, ridiculously sub par material under the "Queen" band name is shameful. I understand the marketing angle, and that's going to get your stuff heard more, but some lines just shouldn't be crossed. I absolutely love the band but heck, John Deacon doesn't even want to be part of it.

Now they are supposedly talking with that kid from American Idol. Frustrating.

Stop smoking it´s bad for your brain!. Elvis is a freaking legend a God -if he was only a man that was in the right plac at the right time he wouldn´t became the biggest star in the world, Elvis Presley is the biggest star the world has ever seen with his voice he touched millions of people he is a legend who sold more records than anybody else even much more than the beatles.

I stopped smoking years ago. In order for him to be as big as he was, Elvis had to be in the right place at the right time. But, that still does not mean that he had more talent than let's say, "Big Momma Thorton", the woman that originally sang "Hound Dog"? Remember something, most of the music that he sang,(especially, in his early days), was sang by great blues artist years before. He received all of the credit, while they went unnoticed, until someone spoke up. While I blame Mr. Parker for this and not Elvis, I do think that had Elvis come out in this day and age, he would have not been as big.

Who cares who sang the songs in the first place. Elvis had the better voice the great Looks and the Aura and Charisma that made him a modern god. Noone give a flying f... who sang it first.

Elvis was NOT a better singer than Freddie. Elvis did not have Freddie's range in the least bit. Charisma, yes and I agree, he came along at the right time.

Elvis had a range Freddie could´ve only dreamed of.

Your post shows clearly you don´t know much about music.

Even Pavarotti said that for him Elvis is the best singer of the 20th Century!!

That is why Elvis is called the King and Freddie....well he is just Freddie fans loves his voice but I know a lot of people who hates his voice-it can get pretty anoying

Look at these videos.....Freddie hasn´t got the range and power to sing Elvis songs:

Nope. Elvis is a modern god for his fans. To me, he was a guy who could only sing. He never wrote/composed/arranged/produced a song. He couldn't dance and never evolved musically.
BTW, there is only one God. That God gave/will give you a life. Elvis, on the other hand, didn't give a flying fuck about you. Unless you had a sandwich.

One more thing: to you, PPKING, Elvis is the biggest star in the world. To me, he isn't. In fact, to me, he is a nothing. If he was black, nobody would have cared about him. Look at Chuck Berry: the guy is probably the greatest ever, but no one recognizes/ed him because he is/was black. Elvis stole material from black artists. Black artists would sign a contract with Elvis' company. They would write/produce songs but would later be fired and the songs they wrote/produced used to be given to E. Presley.

Only one God?? There is no god other the god that is in you! God lives in every human-but there is no old man on a cloud-so Elvis is God!!!
Chuck Berry??? LOL he can´t even sing and he had never the charisma to become a big megastar-I can´t picture millions of girls falling in love with Chuck Berry. He wasn´t handsome his voice is weak so not big charisma so why should he be a megastar???

and that someone who spoke up first and foremost was Elvis himself. he always showed great love and respect to the blues and r&b artists he admired and covered from the beginning.

and the argument that he was at the right place at the right time can be applied to any musician who finds a great deal of success. shrug

Elvis only spoke on the subject, when it was brought to his attention.
