I've just busted out Rhythm Nation 1814 lately for its 20th anniversary, so I'm primed for some new Janet. This song is wonderful! I can't wait to catch her VMA performance- just an hour and a half left!

This is the route she needs to stay on, if she starts injecting bullshit current rb tricks and gimmicks into her music to sound like everyone else, its going to go down like the last 3 records as nothing but the same ole, but this is a 100% improvement over what she has been doing

All For You is where I hopped off the J-train. I don't even think I have those last three on my iPod. I mean, i'm glad she found her coochie and all (thank you Mr. Ritts mad), but I don't need to hear about it on each.and.every fucking album.

i like Discipline. AFY is alright, but it's in one ear out the other. it stuck with me for 2 weeks and i was done with it. up to that point, i was a rabid janet fan.

DJ and TwohYo are shit. especially the latter. DJ has some good songs, but there's like 2 of every one of them on there. the interludes are idiotic ("of COURSE i love music" -- well, can you blame us for wondering, janet? confused though i do love that stupid one about humidity, as you know lol). plus she's got nothing her mind but her vagina for, what, 10 years now? Discpline has the same problem of repeating songs, but they're at least fun and you can kinda-sorta remember them and distinguish them from one another 3 seconds after you've heard them. 20YO... just no. massive fail on all counts.

but, um, this is like the 8,000th time we've had this conversation with each other, isn't it? lol

PS: love the new song! biggrin

20 Y.O. has some awesome stuff on there- "With U", "Enjoy", "Take Care" and "Show Me" for starters! And really, only Damita Jo is primarily sexually-themed. All for You was more about Janet's newfound single status and reflecting on relationships of her past. 20 Y.O. feels like a celebration of the previous 2 decades of her career, and Discipline is Janet falling in love with dance again.

and enders!

yeah, it's not overly sexual (except in the middle). it's just not that good or memorable. and it's too long

20 Y.O. feels like a celebration of the previous 2 decades of her career, and Discipline is Janet falling in love with dance again.

Discipline is Janet phoning it in, even if it's better than the ones that preceded it when she was still involved in the creation of her music. maybe that's the secret? take Janet herself out of the equation and her music is actually pretty decent? i hope that's not the case, but it's her best one in years and it's the one she was least involved with.

and 20 Y.O. is a celebration of.... meh. "Happy 20th Birthday, successuful recording career! We're going to celebrate! I made you this dog turd cake with vomit icing!"

Me either...I found it tad more intresting and challenging than all of the uptempo songs on 20 YO maybe except for Show Me because of the middle segment. maybe its because I fall for Electro like a dummy everytime....Can U Feel The Beat?

you know what i noticed last night? it was like janet was back. not completely, but there were flashes of fierceness on her face. where you could tell there was a person in there. a person with some talent and some drive. at that moment, i realized that i haven't seen that on her face in years. at all, this decade. it's been like the lights are on but nobody's home, that she's just going through the motions in interviews and on records and in her live performances.

loved the hot mess that was her live show last year, but thinking about it, it seemed like she was pretty disconnected. like she was just phoning it in or she was just concentrating on getting the shit done competently instead of engaging herself in what she was doing. and i think some of that came through in the schizo nature of the setlist with all its medleys and whatnot. she's looked almost animalistic at times where she's just functioning on instinct without thinking anything through or any deeper level of thought or connection to what she's doing.

but anyway, my point is. last night i saw signs of a human being in there at certain points.

i hope she's back. i hope whatever she does next (and no, i don't mean a fucking Tyler Perry movie), she puts Janet back into it. she's been coasting for way too long. almost a decade now. as sad and painful as the things she's dealt with this summer are (brother's death, breakup with JD), i hope that she can harness that emotion. she's definitely got something to write about. something to inform and fuel her performance and creativity. i hope she takes advantage of it.

but again, back to my point: last night I saw Janet in there, inside of her. I didn't realize it until then, but it has been a long time since I've seen her. the one I remember. the one with a personality. the one with a brain and something to say and a reason to perform. and it was good to have her back.

love this new song. i hope it means something

I totally agree! Janet's fire was back. I haven't seen that look in her eyes for a televised performance in a long, long time.

I don't think it's a coincidence that she dumped JD and suddenly everything is going well for her again (career-wise) lol

No. I like them, but I think the albums prior to those are better. However, I find myself jamming to Damita Jo much more than I do 20YO and Discipline.

Here are some reviews that I have found:

Janet Jackson "Make Me" S...ft to Fans

OK, the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards are over, and it's time already to start looking forward. Janet Jackson has released a new single today titled "Make Me," and it is Janet in classic form. If you've been a fan in the past, you are almost guaranteed to enjoy it. Head on over to the official Janet Jackson site, sign up for her mailing list, and you will hear a high quality stream of the new single. Last she delivered a tremendous cathartic performance of "Scream," and today she will put a smile on the face of her own throng of dedicated fans. Thanks Janet!

Janet Jackson Engages in ...of Her Own

Perhaps the happiest news to come out of the Video Music Awards? Janet Jackson has a new single, which is right now streaming from her Web site and has been since shortly after the telecast—which she opened with a tribute to her late brother Michael—ended. Because, you guys, the track is quite good! I know that the once-demanding Janet Curve has been somewhat wrecked by the dud singles that came off her last two albums, but trust me.

Sure, the lyrics of “Make Me” do rework the iconic chorus of her late brother’s “Don’t Stop ‘Til You Get Enough” into something most likely referencing erections, but I’ll let it slide, since the rest of the song can just be read as a jittery ode to finding the right dance partner—no whips, chains, or crummy Khia cameos here. Basically, “Make Me” is a weird hybrid of Shakira’s “She Wolf” and George Michael’s “Fastlove” that’s led along by Janet at her most Michael-channeling, possessing a strength that felt like it was missing from her last two albums. I have no idea who had a hand in writing it, but I kind of want to give them a hug. And Janet, too, because, duh.

http://soulbounce.com/sou...aiting For

No, your sleepy eyes do not deceive you, this is a special after hours post to shine the spotlight on Janet Jackson, who has already made my week and it has barely started. Not only did she pay tribute to her brother Michael in one of the more exciting performances on Sunday night's dismal MTV Video Music Awards (video after the bounce), but she surprised her fans with a very special gift on her website--a certified banger of a new song! Janet channels her old Miss Jackson If You're Nasty self on "Make Me." This is kind of song we have been waiting for from Jan--a fresh-sounding throwback that you can throw down to on the dance floor. The lyrics are flirty and fun, and she shows more love to Michael on the chorus with a wink and nod to "Don't Stop Til You Get Enough." This song is everything right now.

I signed up, but go no other notification about the song. I just downloaded the flash file. Did I miss something?

PS I have Downloadhelper which lets me download Flash (*.flv) content. Oddly, there was a picture called "mockingjoe.gif" on the server as well that wasn't on the site's page. It was some white kid laughing over and over. Weird.
