when i was young, it was women. easily. the older i get, the more i like men's voices and relate more to what they have to say with music and how they say it.

i guess because i am one now?

Male. My favorite singer, excuse me VOCALIST, is the late Luther Vandross. This man was supernatural. I could listen to him forever. They don't make them like that anymore. Another one of my favorites is Jeffrey Osborne. Strong, yet completely different from Luther. I enjoy a passionate singer, not necaessarily sexy or sexual, but passionate. Of course I LOVE Prince's voice. Speaking and singing. It's weird, but it has different effects. He may not be a powerhouse, but he nails passion on a regular basis. (Why does that sound like a dirty joke? LOL) Overall I enjoy a lot of male artists. Not to say that women don't entertain me, but sometimes they lose me with unnecessary adlibbing. Plus, something about a good ballad performed by a strong male voice is simply beautiful. And my wildcard, which could mutually be aesthetically, is Usher. When he wants to, and chooses to do so, he can shock me. And his speaking voice isn't bad either. wink

I can say that I prefer male singers most because I can relate most to them. I think that most women, naturally, would prefer female singers for the same reason. My favorite female singers are: Diana Ross, Gladys Knight, Patti Labelle, and Aretha Franklin.

you were saying you related to male singers because you were male and females relate to female singers. i was just pointing out something a well known gay thinker was stating about why he thinks some gay men relate to female singers. that's all.

In some cases it seems a lot of the vocalists that are male, would really rather be ladies, LOL, and some that are females, would really rather be a dude - so I guess you can't go wrong with both.

i.e. Whitney Houston, Prince, Johnny Gill, Boy George, George Michael, Tevin Campbell, Madonna, Me'Shell, kd, Grace, Mario, Omarion, Chris Brown, Freddie Jackson, Keith Washington, David Bowie, Little Richard, Clay Aiken, Rueben Stoddard, Tyrese Gibson, Usher Raymond, Nona Hendryx, Jamie Foxx and on and on and on
*****
A real woman's voice can conjure up emotions that a real man can't - but a man's voice can do things that a woman can't as well - so I guess both, but not the confused ones that are trapped in their fake mirrors

Male, specifically Black male, more specifically, alternative Black male singers.

yeahthat

Except I prefer non-alternative. (ex: James Brown, Otis Redding, Donny Hathaway, Sam Cooke, Percy Sledge,Mr. Mayfield) Basically soul and funk artists. I also like R&B as well such as (Earth, Wind and Fire, Marvin Gaye, Isley Brothers, Luther Vandross, R.Kelly, Boys II Men, The Tempatations) I'm more drawn to male vocalists. IMO-Male vocalists express so much raw emotion that really hits home for me. I'm not drawn to women singers much but I love some such as Janet (Of course!), Minnie Ripperton, Chaka Khan, Phyllis Hyman (love) and Sarah Vaughan.

I have never thought of myself as having a favorite male singer. Most of the songs I have on my zune are female singers, but there are males singers and groups as well. I have only ever claimed one favorite singer: Donna Summer. That is ever. Favorite over any male or female or group.I obviously like other vocalists, but Donna Summer stands on top of them all, in my book.

Male vocalists make me weak! The emotion that they evoke is just... love

I love me some divas (Chaka Khan ,Phyllis Hyman, Janet Jackson, Ella Fitzgerald, Ute Temper, Elton John) ! A majority irk me though
They usually go overboard with it rolleyes
