After spending a fair while on various threads this question hit me - Why do haters hate?

It surprises me that some people would dedicate so much time to dig and tear down another. And I wondered what is the motivation?

Is in insecurity in their own taste? A fear that who they have invested their time into supporting will reflect poorly on them if they aren't seen as the best, the greatest etc.

Or is it that they just desperate for attention, knowing what buttons to push in order to illicit a response?

Or do they just have an axe to grind and like to pose questions that appear to seek enlightenment but just want to push their own agenda? And have no interest in hearing other's points of views?

To me it makes no sense.

I mean hey I'm not a fan of Madonna, but I would never think of entering a Madonna forum or thread to complain about her success.

What is the harm in fans being fans?
In people being able to celebrate the artists they like?
Why does this upset the haters so much?

And I draw a distinction between debate and hate. Debate is carried with respect and with a point of outcome. Hate is just to tear down. Nothing positive there.

There's nothing wrong with a good debate (constructive criticism is good),but there are a few "trolls" in this forum who have only one agenda: to piss off the fanbase of artists they dislike.I'm not mentioning any names,but these people know who they are.They go into these threads,make a bunch of negative comments,argue with the fans,then sit back and enjoy all the drama that they create,lol.

Hate.I don't get it, don't want to understand it and try not to get involved in it.
I can't think of a bigger waste of time, the person typing it and the person having to read it.

If i'm not really interested or dislike an artist/act, i won't go there, simple as. I certainly don't get offended at a thread bearing the name of an act i've little or no interest in. It's like me hitting the record store and pulling all the (insert act name here) albums out of their section and jumping up and down on them, why would i get so offended that i'd do that?

Folks like some stuff i don't. That's ok with me.

I think the very nature of message boards foments a wide diversity of opinions. People should feel free to express their opinions, regardless of the slant, as long as they do so without degrading other posters. I suppose I can fall into the "hater" category, and violently to for certain artists. But I don't do it to try to piss off people here.

This message board is far far far more tolerant and respectful than most I have visited. Yeah, people will disagree, but everybody has different tastes so that's only natural.

I see very little hate here compared to other places.

And anyway - what difference does it make if someone hates what you like? I'm a huge fan of Yoko Ono's music, and pretty much everybody in my family thinks i'm crazy - we joke around back and forth about it all the time. She's not most people's cup of tea to say the least, but that doesn't stop me from liking her and enjoying her music.

Lighten up folks, it's the damn internet. MFers always talk shit online, don't take shit so seriously. Goof on a celebrity, and some Orgers act like you robbed their mama. Damn.

Why do Players Play? Don't know why that was the first thing that popped into my head after I read the title.

I think people throw the word 'Hater' around waay too loosely, just like they use the words, 'Diva', 'Icon', 'musician', and 'talented' waay too loosely here on the .org. Most of the popular artists out now really ain't all that amazing when you look past all the glitz, airbrushing, and over-production. I consider a 'hater' to be someone who hates on a celebrity without a valid reason. There are people who when asked for a valid reason why they dislike a certain celebrity, they have to think really hard and still can't give you an intelligent reply. Most of the .orgers who have negative things to say about artists usually give valid points and several examples as to why they dislike that person...which is what a debate is all about.

I've been on websites where people throw around those childish expressions: 'I hate her because she's ugly'; 'I hate her because she's stupid', 'I hate her because her socks didn't match her outfit in that one video.' Sure,these are reasons to dislike an artist, but they really don't have any substance to back them up and are pretty juvenile and shallow. Those people are haters; most of the people on here are just debating.

Seriously, let's start a topic about all the fanatics who really need to stop licking the peanuts out of their favorite artist's assholes. Totally annoying and stomach turning at times because being obsessed with another human being (which is what they are....human beings who put their pants on one leg at a time just like very body else with two legs) is idol worship and that's wrong on all levels. Give me a hater over a psycho fanatic anyday of the week, because at least haters aren't super gullible and obsessed...ain't no artist that damn great, not even the short, non-specialist with the high ass voice. In defense of me, i have stop doing this a long time ago. i realized it was stupid...any amends, if anyone was offended by me.

Just to reiterate - i'm not calling people out - just trying to understand the motivation.

I get healthy debate, constructive criticism, highlighting flaws, engaging in sharing opposing views, i just don't get wanting to rob someone else of enjoyment, wanting to stir things up just for the sake of it.

"Hate" is sometimes a not-so-fancy word people use to say someone is disagreeing with them. Opinions are all good until it imposes on one's own, then it's "hate", and so forth. Hate is a strong and violent emotion, and one most people here, when discussing Prince or otherwise, probably don't bother putting out. Why bother on a message board? Seems silly.

You said it all in a NUTSHELL!!!! That is what causes the debates to begin in the first place! When celebrities sit down on the toilet to it stinks just like ours!
