Why do Y'All hate on 90's music so much..??

I don't get it!!, Why do y'all hate on 90's music so much??... Y'All act like the people in the 40's 50's and early 60's was not hating on the Motown era.I know people who grow up in the 50's(Blues era) hate Motown music.I thank it's a generation thing. Sadly the people who grow up in the New Jack Swing/ Hip-Hop Soul/Real-Hip-Hop are hating on the new generation (2000 era).

For me, the 90s is when mainstream music started going downhill... fast! I felt like a musical orphan most of the time, with only a handful of artists that I could really get into, most of whom were bigger in the 80s and the others were left on the outskirts. I've only come to appreciate the 90s more in hindsight, and I'd still place them well behind the 80s, 70s and even the 00s.

Although the 90's produced some gems from the likes of Madonna,Mary, Janet, Prince, En Vogue, Toni Braxton to name a few (and the peak of the House music scene after the late 80's), I find the 90's to be the decade when artist lost their originality, and creativity. This is the decade that gangsta rap peaked (ending with two hip hop icons dead), and the music industry began to invest more in cookie cutter pop instead of talent and artistry.
I always refer to the 80"s as the last decade of experimentation, artistry, originality, and real stars.

I will say that the late 90's was the down fall of music.

To be fair, i thank the early 80's (80-84) was the best part of the 80's, Not that big on 80's music.

I try, but sometimes new stuff seems so gimmicky. A lot of 90s stuff I never liked in the first place still sounds overproduced to me.

I do think 2000s music is better, actually, partly because I have much wider access to good underground music than I had in the 90s. It seems everyone does, as well, as a lot of that music has infiltrated the mainstream bit by bit. The Strokes and Arcade Fire have had top 10 albums this decade!

It's true. The internet expanded my scope well beyond what was being played on MTV and on the radio. That's part of why I hated the 90s at the time- there wasn't any outlet where I could viably hear or see stuff I liked. The early 90s were a lot better than the late 90s, though, I'll concede.

If you do your research, you'll see that every decade has music that makes sense for it's time but doesn't necessarily age well into the following decades; music that resonates with people in it's time that also has the rare distinction of being equally appreciated later on; music that falls flat when it's initially released but finds an audience a few years down the road and is revisited and maybe even revered post-mortem; music to sell beer/soft drinks/cars/lifestyles.

Changes in priority concerning the way radio stations are programmed, contracts offered by record labels, advances in technology and how that applies to how music is recorded, blah blah blah.

There is as much bad music that was recorded/released between 1990-1999 as there is good music recorded/released between 1990-1999, just like any decade.

I'm partial to a lot of music that came out in the early and mid nineties, and some of the songs I'm fondest of are cheesy, awful, poorly sung, poorly written, overproduced and/or overplayed. But I still love them.

I actually like alot of 90s music, well at least on the rap side of things. But as far as mainstream R&B and pop, there weren't alot of originality. It seems as though the majority were followers, and there weren't many trendsetters. On the rap side of things, sure you had Dre, Snoop, Pac, Wu, etc. But you also had slept on artists like AZ, Redman, Big L, etc. Back on the R&B side for every Jodeci, there was a Dru Hill, Silk, and whatever R&B group decided to come together to sing about sex. Britney Spears and NSYNC made me hate MTV, but then again all I took the high road and decided to turn it off...

I don't hate all 90s music, just 99% of the stuff that was played on the radio. The 90s had some great underground club and house music and also some great Miami bass type fast rap.

As for the radio, it was absolutely horrible and shit hop infested. By shit hop, I'm referring to all that dull slow to midtempo stuff with those weak casio sounding keyboards and some talking on top of it. And yes, Tupac Shitkur and Notorious PIG were shit hop also. On the R&B side, there was no funk, rarely anything danceable, and no decent slow jams since they had all turned into adult contemporary type slow songs. It was a horrible decade in radio and even though it's almost 2010, the 90s have never left because the styles haven't changed to this very day.
