best classic MOTOWN song

Right now for me it's GET READY by The Temptations. Incredibly exciting, tight funky pop song. Love it. Everytime it comes on I gotta move my feet. Great lead vocal, and love the way the chorus just explodes.

Love it.

what are your faves?

Too many classic Motown songs, man... can't choose which one was the best, they're all that good!

From "Dancing in the Street" to "I Heard It Through the Grapevine" to "Shotgun" to "Love Child" to "I Want You Back", nah, NAH...can't choose.

MOTOWN FOREVER, BABY! cool

Great topic tho. Right up my alley. thumbs up!

ahhh yes Dancing in the Street is probably my #2. pure fire.

And Marvin's "Grapevine" probably #3.

And Smokey's "Tracks of my Tears" right up there as well.

So many classic tunes.

I'm not gonna even drive myself nuts over this question. Whatever Motown song I'm listening too at present is the best classic song. Too, too, too, too, too, too many classic songs to pick just one. I'm interested in what other think/pick. So, I'll be lurking

Well, when I think of the Motown sound, this is the first one that comes to mind:

Absolutely no way in hell I could choose just one.

The Love I Saw In You Was Just A Mirage - Smokey Robinson & The Miracles
Hey Love - Stevie Wonder
2-4-6-8 - Jackson 5
This Old Heart Of Mine (Is Weak For You) - The Isley Bros.
What Becomes Of The Broken Hearted - Jimmy Ruffin

Those are some of my favs. Amongst probably no less than three dozen others.

To me the best classic Motown song is the one most covered. "I Heard It Through The Grapevine".

I would have guessed "My Girl" to be the most covered Motown track. Although I have heard plenty of "Grapevine" covers too, now that you've mentioned it.
