Beyonce and Sonic Youth live in Japan yes.....strange lineup at Summer Sonic Festival this year in Japan
managed to miss a pretty big earthquake while watching Beyonce and I must say she put on a great show and surprised me she did not to any prince songs but she did do an MJ tribute and You Oughta Know by Alanis Morrisette Sonic Youth is one of my favorite bands and they were great but they played mostly new stuff that I did not know so I was pretty dissapointed but I guess they have a new album to promote or something hate to say this but Beyonce pleased me more than Sonic Youth

utada?
forgot to mention that one of the coolest things about the Beyonce show was a video montage she put together consisting of youtube clips people made of them singing one of her songs she put all the clips together to make one complete song the catch was that the participants could be men or women but they had to wear leotards - so the best part was the men who wore leotards and it made me think that prince should just embrace youtube already because he is not proving a single thing right now by fighting it

Brave call, for sure. The encores had a little more variety, thankfully.

yeah, well....even the japanese audience stopped moving after a while (and they usually never stop)
new stuff sounded good, but when they played a song from Daydream Nation i got chills but then they went right back to the new stuff - pretty amazing considering they have been together almost 30 years though oh well.....guess they are out to make new fans but in my opinion, you gotta play the hits (at least half) saw Weezer recently and they only did like 4 new songs and about 20 old ones crowd loved it [Edited 8/10/09 2:06am] [Edited 8/10/09 2:11am]

I don't think Sonic Youth get terribly sentimental for their past achievements. Having said that, I think they spent some serious time playing Daydream Nation in it's entirety at more than a few shows, so maybe there's a new found desire to live in the present with their music, even if it is on the mellow side more than a bit. I do enjoy the songs from The Eternal in concert, far more than I do on the album.
