Is Joss Stone now a has been

It seems like ever since Joss Stone's embarassing act at the Brit Awards 2007 her career has went downhill.

Remember back in 2004 when they pushing her 16 years old at the time to be this new force in soul music critics were calling her the white Aretha Franklin, she was performing with greats like Gladys Knight, Donna Summer and the UK pushed her to be the soul British Invasion

When she released Introducing Joss Stone it did not do well on Billboards in the UK and it sold only 12,000 units awful!!

Her popularity in the US and the UK has gone downhill people don't even know who she is anymore remember when she did tha Cadbury commericals but that was a total flop.

She is in financial trouble with her record company she violated the contract when she decided to record her own album without consenting to EMI and the record company shelved her unreleased album. She has fired five of her managers in the past four years including her mother.

Is this an indicator that she is nothing but a has been now

A has been? I think its too early to say so... "Introducing JS" came out like 2 yrs ago and its been certified Gold in the US... Well, she didnt sell much as "Soul Sessions" or "Mind, Body & Soul", but considering the music market, it pretty good.. And the album was hailed by critics as well (thanx to Raphael Saadiq work?)..
But I must admit her career went down a little, ever since the "british" invasion has started, the main reason being Amy Winehouse.. But Amy Winehouse is nowhere now, thanx to her drug addiction, so it could be an opportunity for Joss to get her "British Blue-eyed Soul Queen" now... Though I think both Amy and Joss voice get so annoying sometimes...

I thought that I was the only one who felt that way. Her runs and everything just seemed forced. Lisa Stanfield is my favorite blue eyed soul queen.

I am not a big fan of her either i find her too overrated i have been too one of her concerts because i just wanted to see what the fascination was about her if you hear her live her voice just sounds too strained she sounds like she is in pain all the time plus she does not have much range she needs backup singers to help her when she is singing.

I love Lisa Stansfield i remember when she did Apollo Theater and she tore to house down

Taylor Dayne is also very good

Joss is great, she just needs the one big album that will take her to the top.Everyone makes a big deal over Amy Winehouse but I think Joss Stone is so much better.I wouldn't count her out just yet.

Joss is currently trying to emancipate herself from her label contract, so she will be free to do as she likes. She may never get back to the same level of fame and sales as four years ago, but then again, I don't think that this is what she wants.
For a girl in her 20s, she's already quite experienced in the business, and she will mature in the years to come. She definitely has an understanding of the legacy of Soul music, and a sincere appreciation for it. Her band kicks ass and features many musicians of the James Brown Band.
I think in the future, once she sets herself free, she'll focus more on the music that she really wants to do, and I have the feeling that it will be less popular with the mainstream, which is ok in my book. biggrin

Yeah,I kinda get the feeling that Joss wants to do some REAL SOUL MUSIC,while the label wants her to be all trendy, working with rappers, etc. They want her to do music that sounds like Mary J.Blige and Keshia Cole, but Joss ain't into that. She's into the real, gritty soul music.Hopefully, when she becomes independent, she'll be able to do things her way.

Absolutely. Last year, she got rid of her management, and she now manages herself. This may lead to some unwise business decisions, but she is free to do what she wants. I think that's quite mature for someone her age.

Commercially, I don't know or care, but artistically, I can say that she will never fulfill her potential. I don't think she knows what her shortcomings are and without that knowledge she'll never correct them.
