My word Laura Nyro was a genius!

Just dug out Eli And The Thirteenth Confession haven't heard it in ages. The vocal arrangements are just stunning and so much happens in her compositions that the songs seem longer than they really are. And I want Sweet Blindness played at my funeral it never fails to make me smile. smile

Love her. Hate about three fourths of her material. But that remaining quarter is magic!

I loved her collaboration with Labelle on "Gonna Take a Miracle". She reminds me of Carole King in some ways.

nod Yep, her voice and her soul tunes are definitely influenced by Carole King, although she's actually a better artist than King (when she's not being too self indulgent that is).

Yes all is well.

Anxiety

i love her stuff, especially the song "i never meant to hurt you".

sometimes her lyrics are kinda "wtf?!?"-ish to me, but in a really scatterbrained-genius way, sorta like an earthy, mellowed-out 70s version of bjork. i've laughed out loud at her songs a few times, and i'm not really sure why, other than i have no idea what she's on about.

sometimes though, her words are crystal clear. nod
