i believe it was two other artists who made
records about being bad. lol
Yeah James Brown recorded I'm Real that year.
I'm Real! I'm the real superbad. Nobody out
there gonna take the things i have.

Before 'Bad' was released, there were all these rumors that Michael would be doing a song/video with Run-DMC.The word was that Michael was gonna change his image and become "street/gangsta" on this album, lol. That's probably where the idea for Right On that cover came from.

I think he actually recorded the song with Run-DMC,but it was left off the album.

Did you guys notice the headline Is Prince's Kingdom Crumbling? eek

In the late 80s,Prince was having a rough time. His record sales were dwindling and people were saying that he's "over".The irony is that,he was making some of his most impressive music during that period. It's just that people weren't going out to buy it.

Yeah, I thought it was kinda silly for them to say that because they weren't interested. If I understand correctly this was right before Sign O' the Times was released.

Lol yeah, i guess they sometimes focussed more on artists' images/lifestyles rather than their catalogue. "Rock & Soul" occasionally did some musician-reviews.
I have a R&S-issue where they review Andre Cymone's studio and stage-equipment, and some issues included an albumreview-section.
Not shure how deep "Black Beat" got into their reviews though. The "Blues & Soul" magazine in the UK around that time did imo some excellent articles about artists' work and tour-info.

I love the album reviews in Black Beat magazine. That was one of my favorite sections.I'd pick up a new issue and head straight to the album reviews. Many of the reviews were written by the editor Steve Ivory (remember him?) and he was a no-nonsense type of reviewer (lol). If the album sucked,he would say it..even if it's by an artist that he liked.

I remember Black Beat's review of Prince's 'Parade' album. It was positive, but the first line of the review was memorable to me....

For Prince fans who thought 'Around The World In A Day' was the most expensive Frisbee they ever purchased, perhaps they'll have a little more affection for 'Parade'...

lol

Well look at it this way:

The Time had broken up
Vanity 6/Appolonia 6 were done
The Family were done by then
Under The Cherry Moon flopped
Parade and Around The World In A Day hadn't done as well as expected
and he had broken up the Revolution

there was some big changes

I had a strong feeling it was going to be this cover, and here we are!

It looks so fake though, we all know it is. I forgot why "Crack Kills" was left off, but I'm glad it was . Bad is so amazing as it is (in my opinion)
