Feelings towards tribute albums? I've got quite a few tribute albums in my collection. Some are pretty weak, but some are actually really good. One of my favorites is the tribute album to Luther Vandross...such a great album. I also really enjoy the Bob Belden tribute to Prince. Any other recommended tribute albums that I should take a listen to? Prince Rogers Nelson

I never felt the compunction to buy one because I knew automatically it wouldn't be like the original.

Oh, you have to hear the Luther tribute album. It's got Stevie Wonder singing 'Soo Amazing' with Beyonce (who is actually quite lovely on the track). Mary J. Blige does a killer rendition of 'Never Too Much'. Angie Stone is phenomenal singing 'Since I Lost My Baby' (my fave on the album). Patti LaBelle does 'Here and Now'. It also has Donna Summer, Usher (Superstar-it's acceptable), Celine Dion, and Alicia Keys...along with several others. I agree that the original is always the best, but some tributes are really worth the listen. Prince Rogers Nelson

I'm glad they exist and I'm quite sure many of them are very good.
But thus far I'd rather spend my money and time figuring out why someone deserves a tribute in the first place. But once I've heard most of the story, I suppose I have picked up the exteremely rare tribute that is noteworthy and contains lots of great artists paying respect, like with "Bob Dylan: The 30th Anniversary Concert Celebration" from 1993. It's one of those things where I know I'm missing out, but I'd rather just read the track list and see the names of those that felt a passion for a song or an artist. Then use that as partial fuel for checking out other artists via their originals.

I have the Earth Wind and Fire tribute album that was released a few years ago.I liked it at first but after a few listens With few exceptions, most of today's artists never capture the spirit/vibe of the original versions.

Almost as bad as sampling, but a good cover in a live set is always great. test
