I'm Still in Love With You...AL Green

1972 classic soul album by Al Green was arguably his most cohesive set. From the opening of the album with the title track until its close with One Of These Good Old Days, Green's awe-inspiring vocals are at times unmatched. The most well know track from the album is probably Love and Happiness, however this song is no where near the albums best. The title track, I'm So Glad Your Mine, What A Wonderful Thing Love Is, and Look What You've Done for Me, display the depth of Greens vocal prowess and is a perfect showcase for the band. While the remakes of Pretty Woman and For The Good Times are in my opinion better than the original versions. My favorite track on this album and probably my all-time favorite by Al Green is the ethereal Simply Beautiful, with its acoustic guitar, kick drum, and expertly arranged strings all of which accompanied brilliantly by Green's heartfelt vocals that are powerful yet restrained...Classic Soul!!!

Al Green's hits are definitely classic.
People from age 5 to 65 know the tunes AND like them.
My favorite is...all of them!
Love and Happiness is so happifying.
For the Good Times is so sobering.
So...how's everybody doing? smile

my personal favorite al green album is still "call me," but this one is a very, very close second...

this album finds green getting a little more experimental in sound and song selection... this is the first time that he starts mixing country and soul, with his cover of kristofferson's "for the good times"... the lyrics and melody of this song are so well crafted that i've never heard a bad version of this song, but al green's is so good that you almost forget that his isn't the only version...

I own not one Al Green album. I have his 4 cd box set, but none of his studio albums, and I need to correct that. Especially considering I'm an album person, even SOMETIMES at the risk of box sets (which I'm a junkie for). For example; since Stevie Wonder's box set has nothing new contained in it, I'd rather have his best remastered albums, instead of a long playing greatest hits set. Nothing wrong with hits, but sometimes deep cuts (album tracks) are just as interesting if not more.

Al's producer Willie Mitchell has been trying to get Rev. Al to record another secular album years. The ball has always been in Rev. Al's court as far as whether he wants to do it. Mitchell has no interest in signing on for a Rev. Al Gospel recording.

I'm partial to "Love And Happiness"...that organ is straight out of THE CHURCH. And I love Al Jackson Jr.'s work with Al and Willie.

Al (Green) brought so much palpable tension to the Bee Gee's "How Can You Mend A Broken Heart"...sigh

And he even recorded the Beatles' "I Want To Hold Your Hand"...biggrin

Memphis Soul...

My favorite Al Green album is 'Al Green Gets Next To You' from 1971.The song "Tired Of Being Alone" is his best performance EVER!! That is soul music at it's highest point.

I remember Teena Marie saying she heard that song as a child, and it inspired her to become a singer.

I can remember hearing every single Al Green record growing up and I would have to say this is one of those timeless and flawless masterpieces.

I'll high five to that. "Love and Happiness" should be an anthem. That organ is uplifting and the foot stomping in the beginning just sets the pace.

My favourite Al Green record. The run he had from early to mid 70s was classic.
