lol Yeah that was hilarious. I loved MJ and Randy's interactions.

Michael fussed at Randy for playing the oldies during the J5 medley. lol

"Randy why are you doing this old stuff?!"

"Because people wanna hear it, they don't care about that (the new stuff), Michael!"

lol

Is this the one you're talking about, Timmy?

LOL!! I got 2 copies of this show, one on CD and one on VHS, great show

This is funny! But I don't know if Michael was serious about not doing the old tunes or if it was just part of the act. It seems that he was disturbed about doing the old stuff.

Who knows? It was probably part of the act. But it's funny you flash forward to 2001 and MJ reuniting with his brothers and he's all like "you mean 'Never Can Say Goodbye'?" And he actually sing a bit of it before Marlon went "no, no, no Michael, we meant 'I Want You Back', I think this was after Jermaine did a little of 'Let's Get Serious' and Marlon had to correct him that "that was yours". lol

Of course its all planned LOL. Its funny though. On the 2001 concerts, when Randy adlibs naughty by nature's "OPP" into the "ABC" song, now that wasn't planned lol . Look at Mikes reaction around the 3:30 LOL. His onstage interactions with his brothers is obviously alot more interesting then when solo.

Sorry, I was meant to post the 2001 video

Are you telling me around the 3:30 mark was planned? I mean it could be, and if so, Mikes acting is good on that one LOL.

"Lovely One" and "Shake Your Body (Down To The Ground)" are two of my favorite tracks from any of the Jackson family.

Most definately. These days, I rarely listen to any music that was made past 1984 and even when I'm playing funk from the 70s and early 80s, I rarely play anything from "Thriller" because it's just too pop sounding and doesn't fit in. The majority of the time when I play something from the "Thriller" album, is when I'm in a pop/rock mood and playing artists such as Cyndi Lauper, Culture Club, or Eurythmics.

Sandwiched inbetween "OFF THE WALL" and "THRILLER"...

"TRIUMPH" and the "LIVE" album are more than worthy, they're essential.

"LOVELY ONE" is a great studio track, but really came to life - LIVE!

Real music, by real musicians... wink

Imo, "Destiny", "Triumph" "Off The Wall" all stand in their own right. All albums have their magic moments without outdoing eachother.

If you really want the musical autobiography of Michael Jackson, don't go to Dangerous or HIStory go listen to the Jacksons' records instead.

Absolutely. I am no what I would consider the "average" MJ appreciator, not really a "fan". Despite his amazing sales, I feel like he had really only two good solo albums-off the wall and thriller. The Jacksons records however, showed much more of his range and charisma. I could be reaching here, and I dont know anything about his relationships with his brothers, but he seemed so much more comfortable and happy performing with them. Certainly not the polished machine you'd see by the time Thriller came around, but in my eyes, a more natural and joyful performer. That may have just had to do with the fact that those were earlier career years though...

I've always found MJ's work with his brothers far more superior then his solo work music

The team work, the harmonizations are all amazing!

Agree. It's just that those albums get so over looked because of his solo work. In fact I prefer albums like "Going Places" and "the Jacksons" to some of his solo work. I hope that during this time people actually rediscover the work of The Jacksons as a group instead of harping on about Thriller.

I did'nt know there were other Jacksons. lol The first time I ever even knew Michael existed was when Thriller came out. Then when he did the Victory tour with his brothers, I was 12-13,and I was thinking "He has brothers!" lol

1978-1982 were Michael's peak years in terms of being an exciting, slightly raw, talent. He was discovering himself as a performer and song writer, and i think its his best period. I think his peak as a polished performer was the Bad tour - he was mesmorisingly good on that tour - but already signs of becoming slightly affected were there (must he have a damn dramatic break in the middle of every single song???).

Anyway Lovely One is definitely my favourite groove from this period. Parts of it melodically remind me heavily of Shake Your Body Down To The Ground, but its a very different song apart from that. I still think this is an underrated gem.

I think my favourite songs from this 'middle' period were:

Working Day & Night
Get On The Floor
Lovely One
Walk Right Now
Things I Do For You
All Night Dancing
Time Waits For No One
I Can't Help It

& Of course i love the hits, Dont Stop.....Can U Feel It, Rock With U...his best stuff. This was the last period of recording where his voice was truly soulful - definitely his best vocals. After this it developed that nasal delivery, and all the "ad-lib" vocal tics that littered his later work.
