if it sold 9.5 million in the US, meaning that it is indeed certified as 19 X platinum as a double album in the US... which is the same way you account for History's 7 million copies.

if we're counting both albums twice for being double discs, then the White Album's worldwide sales are surely more than the 20 X 2 that we get for HIStory's worldwide sales.

Maybe not, you never know. The White album was no St Peppers that's for sure. Not as good as Revolver either imo.

saleswise across his massive career (that may or may not be over, depending on his legacy, unreleased recordings etc) Mike will eclipse eveybody in time, i'm sure.
Although sales don't = quality exactly (though he is/was talented to a massive extent) i'm happy and content to have supported this man for so long.

And will continue to do so too.

maybe, maybe not. the Beatles albums are all being released in 2 versions of remasters in September, and available at digital outlets for the first time ever.

i think that's going to give them a boost waaaaay beyond where they're at now.

on the other hand, in the last decade, Sony seems pretty gung ho about re-packaging his back catalog every few years, and i'm sure it's only going to get worse from now on, so that'll continue to give MJ a boost as well.

I wish those were just bonus tracks or B-Sides...especially Come Together already having been heard on Moonwalker...could have been left for "Bad" instead.....it was better than Leave Me Alone.

hmph! "Leave Me Alone" is his best song!

I wouldn't go that far, but it's my 2nd-favorite song on Bad. 22 years later and I still can't believe it was a CD-only bonus track. disbelief

no kidding, especially considering there is some stuff on that album that needs to get gone already.

(of course Sony was the inventor of the CD (right? - or at least the leader in the technology) and were trying to promote the format at that time)

why anyone would want Come Together, a cover, to take its place is beyond me, even though it is a great cover. and how it ended smack dab in the middle of HIStory after being a b-side in 1992 and in Moonwalker before that still mystifies me.

Or they might've edited some parts off the original recording (there were those infamous fade drums they use on late '70s and '80s recordings on the original version) to make it "fitting" to be on the b-side of the DANGEROUS album and as a track on the HIStory album. confused

i do like it a lot, but it's pretty faithful to the original.

what i do NOT like is that it's a 1987/1988 recording used as a b-side in 1992 right in the middle of a 1995 studio album

well yeah I find it hard to enjoy in the context of the HIStory album. Maybe if it was on Bad Deluxe Edition or something.

The HIStory album is funny. It starts off so strong, but it nosedives at the halfway point and never recovers. confused

Yeah it's up and down for the most part, the same can be said about Dangerous in some parts.

Yep. I have an Australian 7 track CD single of 'Jam' with the longer version of 'CT', just more ad-libs at the end compared to the 'History; version.

Incidentally, my old father (66 now) thinks his version of 'Come Together' is one of the greatest covers ever.

I think the old man may be right.(and that doesn't happen often!) lol

lol Don't get me wrong, Cin, I love the "Dangerous" album but there were some songs where some stuff I didn't think were necessary (like the raps in "She Drives Me Wild" and "Can't Let Her Get Away"). I skip "Heal the World" sometimes, lol. It's a great album but it does have some weaklings in some variations. smile

Heal The World totally embarrasses itself in the face of Will You Be There, and the album really only needed one song like that.

I agree a few of the raps needed to go. And as much as I adore Keep The Faith, it doesn't fit particularly well.

Gone Too Soon seriously needs to take a hike. could have just been a one-off single when Ryan White died or something.

speaking of raps on the Dangerous album... why didn't he get a high profile rapper to do the one in "Black Or White"... it's Bill Bottrell on there, isn't it?

Yeah that's a mystery. He got Heavy D for "Jam" but couldn't get another one for "Black or White"? I had to be honest when I first heard the song, I thought Special Ed (that was actually a rapper's stage name believe it or not!) was on it but when I saw the name LTB and later knowing it was Bill Bottrell's rapping stage name, I was like "Who the fuck is a Bill Bottrell? confused " lol
