Read my other posts and you will see that I said that The Roots was the only exception. The Roots are still making albums, so in that sense, the statement is incorrect that instruments aren't used anymore. Beside the Roots, who used or uses instruments in the hip hop studios?
[Edited 7/26/09 19:20pm]

lol, are you serious/

you think only 1 hip-hop group uses instruments lol

prince has alot of songs with a drum machine with instruments over it..no different than neptunes, kanye or many other producers...

The difference is that if Prince had to sit and pound out that same drum pattern, he could. He's not reliant on the drum machine, he uses it as an instrument. Rappers know how to create a loop, and their talents end there.

Pure load of crap. What a huge blanket statement. Timbaland has come up with some of the most unique drum rhythms to date. What Prince does is no different when he is behind a drum machine. As a matter of fact, I'd say Timbaland, J Dilla and quite a few other producers are actually BETTER at drum programming than Prince.

THAT is why Prince gripes about ProTools (although it has its place at times), and "Real Music By Real Musicians". I have to side w/ Prince on that one.

Griping about Protools is like griping about reel-to-reel recorders. Does Prince also gripe out them too? Its idiotic. Protools is a recording system. Every major recording studio in the country uses it and with good reason. Its much more efficient than cutting reels. Like any other tool, it can be used or it can be misused.

Black Korea - its MEANT to be offensive. Its about anger. If you're not black and have never been to a neighborhood Korean store, then you probably wouldn't understand. Damn near every black person I know from the hood has been treated like they are criminals upon entry and its offensive. Ice Cube just wrote a song out of anger and in response to that feeling. It was meant to offend Koreans who open up stores in black communities and then treat the patrons like they are all going to steal something.
I'm not saying its right; I'm just saying - I UNDERSTAND.

Finally - my pick -

Eminem & D-12 - I sh*t on you
Just offensive for no reason. Child rape, kidnapping, murder, abuse, terrorism, Mortal Kombat finishing moves and to top it off, unrinating and deficating on someone? Even a shot thrown in at Richard Pryor.
These dudes were funny.
lol

Behold the power and the glory of "What That Thang Smell Like". The budget for this video must have been a whole $40. There are parts when they've synched up the song and the video improperly. You can see the cameraman's shadow as he moves his arm to the beat. The earnestness with which the "singer" does his best gospel impersonation (it is Black Jesus after all) to the tune of "I'm tryin' to kick it toniiiiight" is poignantly juxtaposed with a chick with a yellow weave grinding her bits into a guys face covered in dollars and then some creamy substance. I'm pretty sure you can see some coochie at some point as well. eek Oh, the days of BET Uncut. touched
