I could understand why she had difficulty singing at the memorial, but what was her excuses for the Inauguration, the AMA's. or even when she was on SNL promoting E=MC2? I understand that a lot of vocalists lose a portion of their voice as they age, but her voice has gotten worse these last few years. She needs to take some vocal lessons on managing her throat and breathing and working on her fundamentals so her voice can sound clear.

Mariah get on my last nerve, but she doesn't need to apologize for anything here.

This was a memorial service, not some $100-per-ticket Las Vegas show where she's supposed to be near superhuman. Mariah paid her respects quite beautifully -- all the moreso because of her vulnerability.

Now elsewhere in her career? Let's leave that to other explanations.

I honestly don't think she's lying. She was overcome with emotion just like everybody else, Lionel was in the spirit, Jermaine was about to cry, Usher did cry, etc.

also keep in mind this wasn't a concert ! the family was nice enough to share a service with the world.... this was so sudden ...I doubt anyone was expecting to sing for his service or have time to rehearse.



Even newspapers had the audacity to critique performances as if this was a award show

But she was singing to michael so i give her some credit, but im not going to give her a free pass, cause she has been singing like this for a few years.

I do think she could improve, if she laid of the damn champagne, and took a disciplined approach to being coached how to sing with her slightly more mature voice. The way she introduced Trey Lorenz was identical to the way she introduced him in MTV Unplugged and that shows to me that she was singing her song, not MJ's (if anyone understands what I mean). But she was the obvious choice for singing in the memorial. She had a number one with a Jackson cover so she got invited. Thank god they didn't invite Madonna (who I absolutely adore) to re-do her version of Billie Jean from the Virgin Tour lol

Okay, I just saw the performance. The voice hasn't totally gone, but it's diminished. Hardly news. It's been that way for years. It's the quieter notes she struggles with mostly.

Her vocal peak was at the very beginning of her career in the early 90s. By the late 90s, it was already in decline. Not on record of course, but in her live performances.
