Michael Jackson 'Monkey Business' leaked online

A superb track, written in the late nineties, intended for Invincible apparently. It's like funked-up James Brown and dare I say, somewhat reminiscent of Prince as well.

Check it out:

Superb track! Why it never made the final cut I will never know.

Are you sure this was written in the late 90s? It sounds more like it was done in the Bad era. Cool song.

this is a 'dangerous' outtake; it was present on one of the first configurations of the remastered edition of 'dangerous', which proves this song already exists a while. but it didn't make the final cut. also on this configuration were outtakes named 'serious effect' (w/ ll cool j; also circulating on the net), 'if you don't love me' and one sappy ballad (forgot the name though).
saying these songs were written in the late nineties is false, but saying it resembles the songs from the 'ghosts' period could be or perhaps is true. the songs from this period, for instance 'blood on the dance floor' and 'ghosts', were songs already written by mike and teddy riley (mike's co-producer on 'dangerous') and intended for the 'dangerous' album.
with knowing 'black or white' was an outtake from the 'bad' album one can say the song 'monkey business' could've also been written for 'bad'.

It was written in 1990 by Michael Jackson for Dangerous.

He later re-wrote and re-produced it, in 1998. I'm not sure whether this is the original or the late nineties version.

The latter version is credited:

MONKEY BUSINESS
(M Jackson)

Produced by M Jackson / R Verilneey
Lead vocal and backing vocals by M Jackson
Bass by N East
Drums by M Jackson and M Laywell
Horns by S Brawley / D Golden / R Jeffreys
All other musical instruments performed by M Jackson / R Verilneey.

by the way, talking about outtakes made me think about 'earth song'; this is also a 'dangerous' outtake. i believe it was called 'what about us' at the time. classic tune which is a better anthem than 'heal the world' in my opinion. maybe 'heal the world' fits better on the album though. can you relate?

Mike knocked this track out in the Late 80's early 90's.I remember back in early 1991 Kurt Louder mentioned this Song as a Possible Inclusion on "Dangerous".Mike Records alot of tracks&Re-Records things.

boo-ya! I knew I wasn't too off base! You can just hear it, it sounds like one foot was in the Bad era and one foot was in the Dangerous era.

OK, sorry, I'll stop pretending I'm smart now...

I think if he owes Sony one more compilation or album, it should be a collection of outtakes and leftover songs. I would lap that mess up in a heartbeat.

Decent song except it goes on for about a minute too long - suffers from producer-not-knowing-when-to-quit disease. Would imagine it would sound good live.

it's a nice and funky tune, but i dig 'if you don't love me' better, cause it's just something different from mike. where 'monkey business' reminds me of a few songs from 'bad' and 'dangerous' thrown in the mix together, 'if you don't love me' is something i haven't heard mike do very often.. rather never!

I listened to this clip 2 days ago & wasn't overly impressed but didn't hate it. This morning I was washing up & guess what tune popped into my head? Took me a minute to place it. It may not be great but it is catchy.
