I've been pouring through peer reaction to MJ's death and I haven't seen anything from Prince. Maybe it's already been noted in this forum but I haven't seen it. Has Prince made a statement?

Normally, I think threads honoring deceased musicians and artists at this forum are immensely stupid. People post those silly emoticons and everybody seems to scramble to profess their sadness for an artist they didn't know on a personal level. And I usually find sentiments expressed in these threads tacky and disingenuous. But not this time....

Michael Jackson is what art is: The ability to cause an affect on you without having a personal experience with the creator through via art. Great music does that. And so did Michael Jackson. My heart is very heavy this morning because a happy part of my childhood has died along with him. I realize that I'm getting older, that death will be coming for me. I have no aspirations in touching millions of people like Michael Jackson did. That is impossible and not a mantle I could handle. But when I have kids, I hope that their father will inspire them the way Michael Jackson inspired me.

Thanks chuckaducci for understanding. Though I have seen him, my regret was never having the opportunity to meet him and never went to any of his concerts. He appeared very friendly and polite.

Damn, it's gonna seem weird not seeing Michael in the media constantly. What a hell of an untimely DEATH, your hear one minute and gone the next! I'm blasting Michael's music today, to celebrate his life.

RIP Michael Jackson!!!

reading alot of the speculation is making this situation all the sadder. I truly hope the Jackson family can help MJs kids through this as it seems life is gonna be awful tough for them in future. His debts sound pretty out of control, and it is looking increasingly like MJ overdosed. Very sad. By all accounts his family had been trying to get him back into rehab for the last few months. This is not the way a star like him should go out....all mutated and fucked up by fame - seems so wrong.....yet so inevitable too.

Whatever happens, the $85 million taken in from ticket sales will need to be refunded to the public. It will be messy, as well as expensive, and it will need to happen quickly by law. Phillips told Billboard in March that more than 90% of the tickets have been purchased by U.K. residents, but "the rest is France, Germany, Poland, everywhere in the world. People bought tickets from Botswana."

'FANS' Should leave it like it is, NO REFUNDS... I mean, come on, the man DIED.
Collect the 85million and pay his debt, cuz, money seekers will go through the mans STUFF, and that's just wrong!

RIP Michael Jackson, truly a Icon for many! U will be missed, and your music will bring love and joy for YEARS to come!! neutral

the money was to go to children's charities around the world. it should either still go to charity or be returned the ticket buyers to do with as they see fit.

I'm sitting at work and even though I'm listening to a career-spanning singles collection that I put together years ago, I'm able to occasionally take myself out of the reality of the situation.

But then after a couple of minutes, it just pops into my head... "Michael Jackson is dead. fucking Michael Jackson is fucking dead. wtf?!"

It's all completely believable, considering how he lived in the last 10-15 years. But it's completely unbelievable that he's actually dead. You know?

I'm not devastated by his death or anything. I feel a great sadness. And listening to him now fills me with such a great joy. But it's tinged with sadness, as I think it may always be from now on.

But I'm still kind of in shock. I've avoided the television reporting almost completely, but maybe I should absorb a little bit of it so that it will sink in.

I think I might make a trip up to Gary or Detroit this weekend to leave some kind of small tribute at one of the memorial sites.

Wow, im not even a die hard fan, and as much as i love Prince, no one can fuck with Michael.

Prince, take it easy and like you said on cloreen baconskin, pace yourself. If you go, its all over, and all we'll be left with is Madonna. And you know and i know that no one wants that. No offence, Madonna, but come on.

Has Prince said anything about this? Any links?

I still can't take it. I think this is surreal.

I'm not totally sad and stuff, but for me Michael can't be dead.

In my imagination he will be just hidden away in his house for the rest of my life.

"Three Girls and a Buddy Tour" at the Mountain Winery in the Bay Area last night

Emmylou Harris, Patty Griffin, Shawn Colvin and Buddy Miller began their encore with "I'll Be There"...

i would have lost it if I was there knowing that they saw it fit to pay tribute to Michael on the day he passed

WHEN has it EVER been Prince's MO to go rushing top speed into the arms of the press??? confused

Prince does not run out and say something, he walks out and in a few words says it all... (however one cares to interpret that)

Give the purple man some time people. I have no doubt at all that Prince's phone has probably been taken off the hook from calls from media asking for his comment, considering that is what they are doing to every "A-list in the 80s" artists today. I have no doubt P will comment when he's ready to do so...

Man IM at work but dont really feel like doin anything. Mike is like family.

I know....you grow up with the dude....he is some of my first memories. It doesnt matter if someone met the man or not. It's like watching a family member..going through all of his ups and downs for years..reading his books, spending money on his body of work. Trying to copy him. How can someone NOT love this man?

nod You have to understand...I grew up as a Jehovah's Witness, just like he did. We were not allowed to listen to much secular music at all. But my mother let us listen to his music...for a while at least. The first 45in record I ever bought when I was a little girl (for $.49 at Dunn's Five & Dime Store) was ABC. I remember the time as if it was yesterday. I played it until it wore out.

Throughout my childhood, I identified with Michael as a JW and his music kept me sane through the physical and mental abuse I suffered. "He" was there when no one else was.

He's spoken about MJ when MJ was alive and in a respectful manner so it is befitting that he speak about his passing. Madonna did and she, Prince and MJ were some of if not the most influential and talented artists of the 80s and onward. Shit even Donna Summer chimed in.
But then again, its not like the media outlets are scrambling for his opinion and thoughts.

With respect Stevie Wonder hasn't said anything either. I think according to his publicist, he's too shaken up to speak. He's known Michael personally when they both were kids at Motown. He was also a staunch defender of MJ during the trial as well. I don't think Diana Ross has said anything yet either and they were really close. One could only imagine how that poor woman's feeling. You know people react in different ways. As far as we know, P may b in deep seclusion crying over the loss of a friend and rival. He could b composing a song in MJ's honor. Who knows? I'm sure he's remembering MJ in the same fashion that he wishes 2 b remembered for in the end - THE MUSIC. Peace

Herbie Hancock Statement on the Passing of Michael Jackson

This is an unbelievable tragedy, first of all for his family, for his devout fans, for the world of music and for the world of culture.

Michael was one of the most diligent creators. His passion flowed through every pore of his being. His sense of invention was unparalleled. Who else could have thought of the moonwalk and who else could have created such a unique sense of movement in dance. His contribution to music and music videos; Off the Wall, Thriller, We are the World are expressions of his consummate talent. Above all his compassion for serving humanity and desire to uplift and encourage excellence are etched in his legacy.

He changed the world.
