Evelyn "Champagne" King Twofer: "I'm in Love" and "Shame" Shame (1978) - released when she was just 17-years-old, it was her biggest pop hit, reaching #9 on the Billboard Hot 100 (#7 R&B and #8 Club Play). It's still my favorite of her singles and also one of my favorite disco cuts. I'm in Love (1981) - a Kashif tune, this was her first #1 R&B hit and only reached #40 on the Hot 100. The allmusic.com entry for this song notes that it's "one of the first all synthesized records."

Shame is one of my fave disco tunes too.
My mother think you're playing a game.. And what do you me is a (shame!).. Gonna love you just the same.. Momma just don't understand.. I never EVER get sick of that verse However, I think Ms.King's ROYAL moments were the albums that were produced by Kashif(and his ROYAL moments too). I love Melba Moore's Kashif albums,,,,but he gave the bulk of his material to Evelyn, he couldn't even produce the same quality for himself. Don't know if this was released as a single, but the melody is just addictive, simply put And how could one forget this classic Absloutly ADORE the video

Takes me back to the days of rolling skating and jolly ranchers for .10 cent!!
I just loved hearing and seeing Evelyn King on Soul Train doing "Betcha She Don't Love You", that was off the hook!! Those were the days. Thanks for the flashback tracks. It was released as a single but didn't chart. Too bad, cuz it's a good song!

Sweet how every once in a while a ECK thread gets opened. I like her a lot.

this would be an example of great vocal pop. soul vs that stupid Lady GAGGA thread, where people are predicting a long career... Music is the best...

Love love love her voice. She still sounds good live too from videos I've seen. I think SoulAlive has gone to more recent shows.

Evelyn is no pop singer plus she has no interesting personality. Otherwise she would be more known. Something went wrong, and it was not the music. She had substance, but she could not grab people's attention.
